Mission Statement
Continuing Bridgewater
College’s long-standing commitment to diversity and tolerance, Common
Ground’s mission is to:
-
To promote and support
discussion and engagement with pressing social concerns on campus and
beyond. These issues include: tolerance, women’s rights, sexuality,
ethnic diversity, conflict resolution and class/economic diversity.
-
To provide opportunities for
discussion and social interaction for those concerned with and impacted
by diversity issues.
-
To work together to devise
meaningful solutions about the issues we raise for ourselves, our
campus, and the broader community.
-
To pursue these solutions in
the College and beyond.
Common Ground’s Unique
Contribution to Bridgewater College:
-
Through its diverse membership
and issue orientation, Common Ground will have the flexibility to
address issues outside the scope of other single issue/theme
organizations already existing on campus.
-
Common Ground will consider
these issues through a combination of thought and action
— i.e. academic discussion and
activism for change.
-
Common Ground will provide an
opportunity for discussion and support on diversity issues not currently
addressed by other organizations including sexuality, economic class and
religion.
-
Common Ground, through its
mission to promote diversity, will also actively seek to encourage
collaboration among other cultural and diversity organizations.
