Sisyrinchium, the blue eyed grasses, is one of the first flowers I learned in Virginia. I saw it along a fencerow on a hot June day. It was in the midst of several grasses, but this "grass" had a pretty blue flower on top of it! I was quite intrigued and stayed with the genus, doing a floristic study of the genus in Virginia, and studying the Genus in Bermuda, where one species is known, and is claimed as the national flower of the island. |
