Trillium grandiflorum (Michaux) Salisbury in Virginia

You might find when you spend time with this taxon, that it might be a kind of botanical version of Dorian Gray, except the picture remains beautiful, but always different.  The flower starts out white, but then starts to change with age, and the color patterns that result over a season are fascinating to observe.
This picture was taken in early April at the G. Richard Thompson Wildlife Refuge near Linden, Virginia, in Fauqier County.  This area has Trillium grandiflorum literally covering the floor of the forest as far as you can look.
