Kimberly J. Bolyard, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Biology
Dr. Bolyard started at Bridgewater College
in the fall of 2007. She received a B.A. in international studies from the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill and a B.A. in biology from Indiana
University at Bloomington.
She earned a Ph.D. in ecology and evolutionary biology from Indiana University. Dr. Bolyard teaches courses in ecology,
evolution, animal behavior, and non-majors biology.
Her research interests focus on the proximate
ecological causes of communication and reproduction in fishes and on how these
behaviors may have evolved by sexual selection.
Currently, she is investigating (1) male-male competition for
territories among male Betta splendens
fish and (2) the potential for competition for nests and mates among male Potomac sculpin (Cottus
girardi).
