Dr. Stephen F. Baron, Associate Professor of Biology
Dr. Stephen F. Baron, associate professor, came to Bridgewater in 1995. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in biology from the University of Dayton. After working for a year as an industrial microbiologist for a major food company, he began studies at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where he received the Ph.D. in anaerobic microbiology. He also received postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Dr. Phillip Hylemon at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Baron teaches courses in microbiology, molecular biology, advanced biotechnology, and non-majors biology. His research interests include the production of bacterial pigments and the degradation of polyhydroxyalkanoates, which are plastic-like, biodegradable polymers produced by certain bacteria.
