Anita Cook


Anita Cook received her B.A. in Literature & Languages from Wilmington College (Ohio), her M.A. in English & Linguistics from Bowling Green State University (BGSU), and her certification in TESOL (Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Old Dominion University (ODU). She was an Associate Professor of English at Tidewater Community College (TCC) for 18 years where she taught college composition, technical writing, developmental reading and writing, ESL, American Literature, and English Literature.

While at TCC, she also established and directed the English as a Second Language Program and created the first Office of International Students & Scholars in the Virginia Community College System, receiving several state and federal grants to fund the office & its personnel. She also established a cooperative Teacher Training program between TCC and ODU, placing & supervising student teachers seeking their TESOL certification. In addition, she often directed the Writing Lab on campus and spearheaded the use of computer technology in composition classes.

Professor Cook's primary interest is in writing and the teaching of writing with emphasis on the use of instructional technology. She has served as an editor of texts, a technical writer, and a director of development for both business and non-profit agencies. She has taught composition & technical writing and also served as a pre- and post-test writing evaluator at BGSU, ODU, TCC, and at James Madison University.
