Stanley A. Galloway, Associate Professor of English, received his Ph.D. from the University of Kansas, M.A. from Kansas State University, and B.A. from Northwest Nazarene College (now University). A generalist by nature, he teaches both American and British literature, as well as a developing specialty in the literature of Southern Africa. His dissertation was on science fiction and his master's thesis on playwriting. Additional special interests include Arthurian literature, the plays of Henrik Ibsen, and contemporary poetry.
Dr. Galloway is a self-professed expert on the literature of Tarzan. He has published and presented various papers on this literary character and its author, Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Dr. Galloway's sabbatical in 2001 took him to South Africa, where he lectured at Rhodes University and researched current poetry in the country, via interviews, local publications, and manuscripts. He is organizing an interterm trip for students to the country, tentatively scheduled for January 2005. |
