The department of foreign languages offers majors and minors in French and Spanish. A minor in German is also offered at our BCA Marburg campus. The department works with the department of education to support certification programs (K-12) in French and Spanish.
The department offers a varied curriculum designed to develop skills in reading and writing, to promote understanding and appreciation of foreign cultures and literatures, and especially to enhance your ability to communicate in the foreign language. In order to achieve these goals, a proficiency-oriented approach is used, which is student-centered rather than the more traditional lecture approach.
In addition to courses offered at most colleges and universities (literature, grammar, civilization, conversation), the department offers courses in French and Spanish for the Professions; Creative Writing in both languages; Latin-American civilization and literature; French African Literature; and Interterm travel courses to Spain, Mexico, and France. All advanced level courses are taught in the target language and include video and audio features. |
