Welcome to the Department of Health and Exercise Science!

The mission of the Department of Health and Exercise Science is to broaden students intellectual base in the various disciplines of health and exercise science. Students pursuing majors in the department are challenged to explore the scientific foundations of human movement as well as current issues relating to individual and public health. This includes study in sub-disciplines such as kinesiology, human anatomy, motor behavior, exercise physiology, psychology of physical activity, first aid and safety, nutrition, and all aspects of health. The department integrates significant field and laboratory experiences with classroom experience to comprehensively prepare students to pursue careers such as teaching, allied health, athletic training, nutrition and wellness, coaching and various equestrian related occupations.

In addition to major and minor course offerings in the department, students across the campus are invited to explore interests in physical activity and wellness. Instruction in activities that develop new physical skills that are designed to translate into lifetime activity and healthy living is an objective of the department and the College in general. This objective is reflected in the College's General Education Core which requires all students to satisfactorily complete the Department's Wellness course and at least one physical activity course.
