Amanda Campbell Amanda Campbell has a Bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education from James Madison University and a Master's degree in Adapted Physical Education from the University of Virginia. She is currently working on completing her Doctorate in Health and Physical Education - Pedagogy at the University of Virginia. Before returning to school to pursue her doctorate, Professor Campbell taught middle school and high school physical education as well as adapted physical education. Professor Campbell lives in Waynesboro with her husband, Brian, their daughter Catherine and their two dogs, Maverick and Charlie. Lori A. Gano-Overway Lori Gano-Overway has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Business Administration from Hope College in Holland, MI and a Master's degree in Movement and Sport Science from Purdue University. Additionally, she has a Doctorate in Kinesiology with a specialty in psychosocial aspects of physical activity and minor emphasis in curriculum design and evaluation and educational psychology from Michigan State University. Professor Gano-Overway lives in Mt. Sidney with her husband, Ken and their three dogs, Tuffy, Ellie Mae, and Mollie. Charles W. Hale IV Professor Hale joined the Bridgewater staff in the spring of 2000 as the College's Assistant Athletic Trainer. He has a Bachelor's degree in Health Science/Athletic Training and a Master's degree in Health Science Education from James Madison University. In 2002, Professor Hale moved to a full-time faculty position at the College in the Health and Exercise Science Department. He teaches courses in both exercise science and athletic training, and works with the field hockey, lacrosse, and tennis teams. Prior to his employment at the College he worked with Rockingham Memorial Hospital Rehab Services. Professor Hale's research interest includes the effects of hydration on cognitive skills performance. Professor Hale lives in Grottoes with his wife Ada and their two children. Robert Hammill Rob Hammill comes to the Bridgewater Community from the University of Virginia where he spent the last three years as a pre-doctoral fellow in sports medicine. He is currently collecting data for his dissertation project at UVa while teaching health and wellness courses at Bridgewater. His research interests include changes in neuromuscular control associated with fatigue, injury, and training programs. He is a certified and licensed athletic trainer and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist. Prior to his work at the University of Virginia, Rob worked for Dartmouth College in New Hampshire as an athletic trainer on their sports medicine staff. He has also served as a physical therapy technician in a private clinic, an adjunct professor at Colby-Sawyer College, and as an athletic training intern for the Arizona Cardinals football club. Rob lives in Waynesboro, VA with his fiance, Sara, and his dog, Zoey. Dr. Mary Frances Heishman A native of Montezuma, Va., Dr. Heishman has a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Bridgewater College and a Master's degree from James Madison University. She earned her Doctorate from the University of Virginia in Motor Learning with specialties in Sport Psychology and Health. Currently, Dr. Heishman has teaching responsibilities in Health Education, and Adapted Physical Education and Recreation. Heishman recently retired from coaching the Eagles volleyball team and compiled over 600 victories during her tenure at Bridgewater. Dr. Heishman played three sports, hockey, basketball and tennis, while a student at Bridgewater College. Her current interests include playing in the church bell choir and spending time at the beach.
Patricia Kearney has Master's Degrees in Community Health from Old Dominion University, and in Dance from University of Houston, Clear Lake. Her Bachelor's Degrees are in Psychology, from Christopher Newport University, and in Theatre, from the College of William and Mary. She has taught at Christopher Newport University and Old Dominion University, and was an assistant director of the Fitness and Recreation Center at University of Maine, Farmington where she also taught courses preparing fitness professionals. She is certified through the American Council on Exercise in Group Fitness, Personal Training, and Lifestyle and Weight Management; she is also a Yoga Alliance registered yoga teacher and certified in yoga therapy. Prior to going back for the second set of degrees in health related fields, she applied her performing arts training in acting and theater history research with Colonial Williamsburg and was choreographer for several seasons with Virginia Shakespeare Festival. Curtis L. Kendall In addition to his duties as head baseball coach and athletic director, Kendall is an assistant professor in Bridgewater's Department of Health and Physical Education and holds a Master's of Science in Education from James Madison University. He lives in Bridgewater with his wife, LeAnn, and their two daughters, Brooke and Kelly. Barbara H. Long Professor Long is a graduate of Bridgewater College with a degree in Biology; United States Sports Academy with master's degrees in Sports Medicine and Fitness Management and is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Education program in Organzational Leadership at Shenandoah University. She was certified by the Board of Certification in 1989 and is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Medicine as an athletic trainer. Her career has had her working with professional and high level amateur athletes at places like the World University Games, US Olympic Training Center, and several professional football camps. She has also served as Head Athletic Trainer at Broadway High School and as clinical ATC for RMH Rehab Services, and Body Ease Physical Therapy, PC. Professor Long's research interests include pathogens in athletic training such as, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), hydration levels in athletes, and fall prevention in the elderly. Recently, Professor Long teamed with Professor Chase Hale to publish the book, Athletic Training Exam Review through Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins publishers. Professor Long previously spent 10 years as a clinical athletic trainer and through this work developed community education presentations and publications dealing with Exercise and Aging, Fall Prevention, Increasing the Functional Limits of Aging, and Children and Sports. During this process, she also acted as co-chair for the Wellness Workgroup of the ElderAlliance, Inc and coordinator of the Stride Inside Valley Mall Walking Program. Barbara and her husband, Stuart, enjoy living in the Lacey Springs area with their two children--Tyler and Cassie. Kimberly D. Wright Professor Wright has been a member of the Bridgewater College faculty since June 1988 serving in a dual capacity as Assistant Professor of Health and Exercise Science and Director of Aquatics. She completed a MS degree in Physical Education with a concentration in adult fitness at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She has also done some post-masters work at the University of Virginia in the area of motor learning and adaptive recreation. Kim's professional interests are adult fitness, health prevention/promotion and the transfer of learning process. She was instrumental in developing the Allied Health Science major. |
