Bob Andersen
As the W. Harold Row Professor of International Studies, Robert B. Andersen has been responsible for a wide range of courses in comparative politics and international relations. He has served as Chair of the Department of History and Political Science (1998-1992) and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (2002-2008), and is a recipient of the Ben and Janice Wade Outstanding Teaching Award. Prior to coming to Bridgewater in 1990, he held faculty positions at the University of Arizona, Seattle University, and Manchester College.
Dr. Andersen received the B.A. from Macalester College and the M.A. and Ph.D. from the Graduate School of International Studies at the University of Denver. Since the early 1970s, his study, teaching, and research activities have taken him to Venezuela (where he conducted dissertation research), Spain (where he was director of BCA Barcelona), Central America (especially Costa Rica), and Mexico. His research interests have ranged from Latin American militarism to Central American peace; his most recent project, with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, examines the implications of the abolition of the military in Costa Rica.
