Ensembles

Ensembles are open to students in all majors, and academic credit is given for participation in most groups.



Oratorio Choir: An ensemble of 85 student, faculty, staff and alumni singers. Rehearsals are every Monday at 4:30 p.m. in the Carter Center Sanctuary. All students, staff and faculty are invited to participate. Contact Dr. Jesse Hopkins (jhopkins@bridgewater.edu) for more information.

Concert Choir: 46 singers from all classes. Auditions are held in the fall during the first week of classes. This ensemble specializes in masterworks for chorus. The choir performs on campus for special occasions and tours during the spring.

Chorale: 24 singers from all classes. Auditions are held in the spring for the next academic year. The ensemble performs jazz and show choir music, madrigals and concert literature, both secular and sacred. The Chorale tours each year, performing for schools, churches and civic groups, and makes international concert tours every two to four years. In May 2003, the Chorale traveled abroad to Germany. Members of the Chorale are also members of the Concert Choir. This past May, the Chorale gave a series of concerts in Hungary and Austria.

Handbell Choir: 12 members drawn from the Concert Choir. Performs on the Concert Choir's spring tour program and at various other campus events. The group is student-directed by Melissa Mason and Joel Bremner.

Symphonic Band: 50 to 70 players. The group specializes in traditional and modern music for large wind and percussion ensemble, symphonic transcriptions and original works for band.

Jazz Band: Approximately 20 players. The group specializes in music from all styles of the jazz idiom. An audition in the spring for the next academic year is required. The Jazz Band performs regularly on campus and tours regionally during the early summer. Members of the Jazz Band are also in the Symphonic Band.

Chamber Music Ensembles: Small ensembles are formed to utilize available student talent and to accommodate special musical interests of string, wind and percussion players, singers and handbell ringers.

Pep Band: This student led group plays highly spirited music to motivate the crowd and cheerleaders at basketball and home football games. Currently an ensemble of about 25 students, all student players are invited to join.
