David Snively holds a Bachelor of Music degree and a Master of Music in clarinet performance from the Eastman School of Music where he was a student of Stanley Hasty and a member of the Eastman Wind Ensemble under the direction of Frederick Fennell. While at Eastman he was awarded the Performer's Certificate in Clarinet which included a solo concerto performance with the Eastman-Rochester Orchestra under the direction of Howard Hanson. He has also studied with Alfred Prinz, Principal Clarinetist of the Vienna Philharmonic, while studying at the Hochshule fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna, Austria.
He has been Principal Clarinetist of the Florida Chamber Orchestra, the Florida Festival Orchestra, the Gold Coast Opera Orchestra and the Osterreicher Orchester in Vienna, Austria. He was Assistant Principal Clarinetist with the Miami Opera Orchestra, the Fort Lauderdale Symphony (now the Florida Philharmonic) and the Miami Ballet Orchestra. David has also been a member of the Richmond (Virginia) Symphony, the Palm Beach Symphony and Opera Orchestras and has played with Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.
David has performed several recitals in South Florida, many parts of Austria as Artist in Residence at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, and two recitals in Carnegie Recital Hall in New York City. He also recorded solo and chamber music for ORF Austrian National Radio and ITV Television in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was a founding member of the New York Chamber Players and a member of the Florida Winds and Southern Winds chamber ensembles.
His teaching experience includes teaching clarinet and chamber music to undergraduate and graduate students at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, the University of Richmond, Florida Atlantic University, Eastern Mennonite University, and Broward Community College in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He has also been a high school band director in New York State, Richmond, Virginia and, most recently, for many years at Broadway High School in Virginia.
