Soprano Joyce Ann Wead received her Bachelor of Music degree in voice from George Peabody College in Nashville. She holds a Master's degree in vocal performance from Northwestern University in Chicago and did post-graduate study at the University of Texas in Austin.

In Chicago and Austin she was active in opera as Mimi in LA BOHEME, Susanna in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and Monica in THE MEDIUM. Her appearances in leading roles of operettas and musicals included A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, COMPANY, SHE LOVES ME, MAN OF LA MANCHA, THE MIKADO and PIRATES OF PENZANCE. The oratorio repetoire includes Handel's MESSIAH, Mendelssohn's ELIJAH, Mozart's REQUIEM, Berlioz's L'ENFANCE DU CHRIST and Bach's ST. MATTHEW PASSION.

Professor Wead began teaching at Bridgewater College in 1987. She has performed with the Shenandoah Valley Choral Society, JMU Dinner Theater, the Blue Ridge Theater Festival, and presented solo recitals at JMU and Bridgewater. She has been music director for FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, HMS PINAFORE and PIRATES OF PENZANCE for the Bridgewater Pinion Players.

Professor Wead is an active adjucator for competitions and festivals and maintains a private studio.

She and her husband George live in Bridgewater, and their son Alex is a 2002 graduate of Bridgewater College.
