Weir, Timothy


Dr. Tim Weir joins the faculty at Bridgewater as Director of Bands and Instrumental Music, having previously worked at Virginia Tech, Radford University and Florida International University. He holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the University of Miami (FL), a Master of Music degree from Florida International University as well as a Bachelor of Music from the Australian National University and a Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Canberra (Australia).

With an extensive performance background spanning both commercial and classical fields, Dr Weir has performed with such artists and organizations as the Miami Chamber Orchestra, the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Key West Pops, Arturo Sandoval, Celia Cruz, The Funk Brothers and Michael Bolton. He has been a regular member of the Emmy Award winning First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale Orchestra and has recently been nominated for a Grammy Award with the University of Miami Concert Jazz Band.

Dr Weir's duties at Bridgewater include conducting the Bridgewater Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and Pep Bands as well as teaching applied trumpet. Additionally, Dr Weir teaches Brass, Percussion and Woodwind Methods, along with Conducting, Arranging and Marching Band Techniques.

An active member of both the International Association of Jazz Educators and the International Trumpet Guild, Dr Weir is on the steering committee for this guild's annual conference to be held in Sydney (Australia) in 2010. His professional associations also include MENC, Phi Kappa Lambda and College Music Society.
