Music Minor Course Requirements and Sequence
A minor in music consists of MUS 221, 222, 312 or 313, eight credits of applied music in the major performance area numbered 300 or above, two additional courses chosen from the following: MUS 311, 312, 313, 341, 342, 420 or 421, and participation in a large performing ensemble during each year the student is in residence. Jury examinations are required each year in the student's major performance area. Two public performances in the major performance area are required each year. A senior recital is required.

MUS 221 - Music Theory I (Fall - 3)
MUS 222 - Music Theory II (Spring - 3)
MUS 312 - History of Baroque and Classical Music (Fall - 3)
OR
MUS 313 - History of Romantic and Twentieth-Century Music (Spring - 3)
Applied Music - Eight (8) semester hours ABOVE 300 in one area
Ensemble - One choral or instrumental ensemble each year
And two additional courses chosen from the following:
MUS 311 - History of Medieval and Renaissance Music (Spring - 3)
MUS 312 - History of Baroque and Classical Music (Fall - 3)
MUS 313 - History of Romantic and Twentieth-Century Music (Spring - 3)
MUS 341 - Music Theory III (Fall - 3)
MUS 342 - Music Theory IV (Spring - 3)
MUS 420 - Instrumental Conducting and Methods (Fall - 3)
OR
MUS 421 - Choral Conducting and Methods (Fall - 3)
Guidelines/Notes/Additional Information
- The 400 level must be reached in the Major Applied Music area.
- Music Department offerings in World Culture and Western Culture are recommended as electives.
- Music Minor courses should commence no later than the Junior Year.
- Courses by appointment will be offered ONLY in EXTREME circumstances.
Church Music Concentration Requirements
A minor in Church Music consists of 19 credits including MUS 322, 340, 480 or an equivalent experience, and the remaining credits chosen from the following: MUS 362, 400, 420 or 421, 422, and 490. This minor is available only to music majors.
A Concentration in Church Music Requires:
MUS 322 - Choral Literature (Spring - 2)
MUS 340 - Church Music (Fall - 3)
MUS 480 - Internship (Fall, Interterm, Spring - 3)
Remaining Credits Can Be Chosen From:
MUS 362 - Eighteenth-Century Counterpoint (Spring - 2)

The Church Music concentration is selected by and available only to students who are Music Majors.
