Physics

Three different majors in the physics department provide opportunities for students to study the theoretical and applied nature of physics from within a broad liberal arts context. Students will find that the courses of study in these majors will prepare them for a variety of challenging and rewarding careers, not only in the fields of science and technology, but also in education, engineering, and architecture, as well as careers emphasizing advanced analytical skills, such as business management, law, and Christian ministry.

Physics majors include:

1. Physics - preparation for graduate studies or technical jobs
2. Applied Physics - preparation for engineering related jobs
3. Physics & Mathematics - preparation to teach in high school

Dual-degree Engineering Articulation Agreements

Bridgewater College has signed dual-degree agreements with Virginia Tech and with the George Washington University. These allow Bridgewater students to earn a BS or BA from Bridgewater and a BS in engineering from the other institution.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Physics is to prepare students with majors in the department for careers in physics, engineering or related fields. The department also serves the broader educational mission of the college by providing students not majoring in physics with the necessary concepts, understandings and skills in the physical sciences to support their development as educated persons.
