The Internship Program at Bridgewater
College is designed to give students a better understanding of their career
objectives through on-the-job experience. Supervision of an intern is
provided by an appropriate faculty member (the "cooperating
professor"), by a staff member of the agency or business in which the
student is an intern (the "site supervisor"), and by the Director
of Internships
The expectations of the site
supervisor are:
to provide a meaningful and realistic experience
for the intern.
to give the intern adequate direction and
supervision.
to complete a midterm and final evaluation form.
to bring any problems or deficiencies to the
attention of the cooperating
professor or the Director of Internships.
Because Bridgewater College students
are insured against injury 24 hours a day, on and off campus, the sponsoring
agency's liability for an intern is very limited.
To be considered for an internship, a
student must have junior or senior status and at least a 2.0 quality point
average. A three-credit internship involves a minimum of 120 hours of
participation, and we expect the interns to be diligent and professional in
carrying out their duties. Each intern submits a weekly report to the
Director of Internships and copies are sent to the cooperating professor.
Each intern also submits a final report and a copy of the report is sent to
the cooperating professor. Internships are graded on an S or U basis.
