II. CAMPUS NEWS AND UPDATES

BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE WELCOMES 13 NEW FACULTY MEMBERS

Bridgewater College welcomes 13 new faculty members for the 2007-2008 academic year - one associate professor, six assistant professors and six visiting professors. The faculty members, who will arrive on campus in late August for faculty meetings prior to the start of classes on Sept. 4, will join the departments of biology, communication studies, health and exercise science, history, music, philosophy and religion, sociology and psychology. Click here for the complete story and details about these new faculty members.

BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE PURCHASES EQUESTRIAN CENTER

President Phillip Stone announced the purchase of Oak Manor Farms, a 75-acre farm located in Weyers Cave, Va. Oak Manor, which has been renamed Bridgewater College Equestrian Center, has hosted the College's equestrian program for the past seven years. The farm will continue to be the site for equestrian competitions and boarding of College- and student-owned horses. Purchasing the farm gave Bridgewater College the opportunity to ensure the continuation and growth of this very popular program. Acquiring this property demonstrates the College's commitment to building upon the program's successes, which include a conference championship last year, national awards, as well as multiple rider recognitions, and to providing a high quality, college-owned facility that can be used for generations to come. The farm includes two barns with 50 stalls in total, fully-equipped classrooms and offices, and one indoor and two outdoor arenas. This is a world-class facility that has enabled the College to establish and grow a highly successful equestrian program, and the College greatly appreciates the support of Oak Manor Farms over the years. Sarah Irvine will continue to direct the equestrian program.

Soloists will be Phyllis Wine, Jolene Flory and Abigail Hostetter. The program will include works by Orlando Gibbons, Johannes Brahms, several contemporary American composers, and spiritual settings by Moses Hogan and Warren Martin. All are invited to attend; there is no charge for the concert.

ODAC ANNOUNCES 2007 ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

In what is one of the largest lists in recent memory, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference is proud to announce the 2006-07 ODAC All-Academic Team. This year's squad honors 1,076 student-athletes, among the 14 competing schools (including Catholic for football), who had outstanding seasons not only during their athletic campaigns, but also showed the same perseverance and excellence in the classroom. Eligibility for the ODAC All-Academic Team is open to any student-athlete who competes in a conference-sponsored sport, regardless of academic class. He or she must achieve at least a 3.25 grade point average for the year to be considered for an All-ODAC Academic Award. Washington & Lee University placed the most student-athletes on the list with 238 individuals on the academic team. Bridgewater College and Lynchburg College also boast more than 100 student-athletes on the list with 119 Eagles and 108 Hornets represented. A total of 94 Bridgewater student-athletes were honored with several earning recognition in more than one sport, thus bringing the total number of mentions on the list to 119. Click here for complete story and to see the All-Academic Team roster.

FOOTBALL RANKED NO. 1 IN PRESEASON POLL

The Bridgewater College football team was ranked No. 1 in the 2007 ODAC coaches' preseason poll. The Eagles received five of the seven first-place votes to edge defending champion Washington & Lee for the top spot. W&L received the remaining two first-place votes. The BC Eagles just missed the Top 25 in the D3football.com preseason poll. The Eagles received 34 points in the voting to rank among the other teams receiving votes outside the Top 25. ODAC rival Washington & Lee received five points in the voting. Earlier this summer, Bridgewater was ranked No. 17 by Street & Smith's magazine in its preseason poll.
