COMING SOON: THE BC ONLINE ALUMNI COMMUNITY -

The Office of Alumni Relations is proud to announce that we will soon be launching an online alumni community! This robust tool will allow you as an alumnus/a to perform social as well as career networking online. Similar to MySpace and Facebook, you will log in to the community and update your personal profile with current contact information and career information; upload class notes and even photos; search the alumni profiles for classmates, roommates, teammates; search for alumni to assist with career opportunities, mentoring; and even upload your resume. WINCHESTER AREA ALUMNI & FRIENDS EVENT - MARCH 27

Alumni, parents and friends in the Winchester, Va., area, join us for an alumni reception on Thursday, March 27, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the home of Ted, '79, and Faye Barker, 602 Sterling Drive, Winchester. Reconnect with college and other BC alumni and friends while enjoying appetizers, campus updates from President Phillip C. Stone and head football coach, Mike Clark, door prizes and more! COME BACK TO CAMPUS FOR ALUMNI WEEKEND: APRIL 18-19, 2008

Just a few of the highlights:

- The Class of 1958 will mark its 50-year reunion and be inducted into the Ripples Society on Friday, April 18. This year's Ripples Medals are being presented to:

Margaret "Peg" Flory Wampler Rainbolt, '37

- Reunion luncheons are scheduled Saturday, April 19, for the Classes of 1933, 1938, 1943, 1948, 1953, 1958, 1963 and 1968.

- At the Alumni Banquet on Saturday evening, April 19, the annual BC Alumni Association alumni awards will be presented. This year's award recipients are:

Young Alumni Award: A. David Ervin, '91

Distinguished Alumni Award: John R. Milleson, '78

West-Whitelow Award for Humanitarian Service: David R. Radcliff, '75

SAVE THE DATE: PICNIC & ORIOLES GAME - JUNE 1, 2008

Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 1, and plan on joining us for our annual noon picnic in Camden Yards followed by an Orioles vs. Red Sox game at 1:35 p.m. Cost: $37/person (includes picnic and game ticket). JOIN US FOR LUNCH IN RICHMOND ON JULY 13

Mark your calendars to have lunch with Bridgewater College alumni and friends at the Church of the Brethren Annual Conference in Richmond, Virginia, on Sunday, July 13. The Church of the Brethren and the Brethren Church will be marking the 300th anniversary of the founding of the Brethren movement in Germany in 1708, and we anticipate a large crowd for the joint worship service on Sunday morning, followed by our luncheon at noon in Salon E of the Marriott Richmond Downtown Hotel. Tickets for the luncheon are $17 each and may be purchased through Annual Conference registration, which opened March 7 at www.brethren.org (click on Annual Conference tab) or by sending your check, payable to Bridgewater College, to Office of Church Relations, College Box 186, Bridgewater College, Bridgewater, VA 22812.


II. CAMPUS NEWS AND UPDATES

BC TO HONOR ANDREW YOUNG, FACULTY ON FOUNDER'S DAY APRIL 1

Bridgewater College will celebrate the 128th anniversary of its founding on Tuesday, April 1, presenting several awards during the 11 a.m. convocation in the Carter Center for Worship and Music. President Phillip C. Stone will award Andrew Jackson Young Jr., civil rights activist and former ambassador to the United Nations, an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters, honoris causa in recognition and appreciation of his years of devoted service to mankind and his country. Two faculty members also will be recognized for excellence in teaching. Dr. K. Gary Adams, professor of music, will receive the Ben and Janice Wade Outstanding Teaching Award, and Dr. Alice L. Trupe, associate professor of English, will receive the Martha B. Thornton Faculty Recognition Award. Click here for complete story. BC STUDENTS TURN SPRING BREAK INTO SERVICE OPPORTUNITY

03/17/08 - Seven BC students will take up hammers and paint brushes this week as they volunteer as construction workers for Habitat's Collegiate Challenge Spring Break 2008. The seven students, accompanied by Joseph Crockett, professor and chair of chemistry, left for Sumter, S.C., on Saturday, March 15, and will return to campus on Saturday, March 22. The group will work with the Sumter Habitat for Humanity affiliate to complete two houses. Four-year veteran member of the BC Habitat for Humanity chapter, Jessica Powers has served as president for the past two years and will be the student leader for the trip. Powers, who is making her fourth Habitat trip, says she has always had a heart for service and the Spring Break Challenges provide a special opportunity for her to volunteer. BC LAUNCHES CIVIL WAR INSTITUTE MARCH 29

The American Civil War, as it was fought in some key border locations, will serve as the focus of the first Bridgewater College Civil War Institute March 29 from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m. There is no cost for the Institute, which will be held in the Spoerlein Lecture Hall in BC's McKinney Center for Science and Mathematics. The event will feature nationally known historians and authors who will present topics to support this year's theme, "'The Mighty Scourge': The Civil War in the Borderland." "The Institute understands that the Civil War is an important part of the heritage of the Bridgewater community," said Stephen Longenecker, professor of history and political science, and Institute co-founder with BC Chief of Police Nick Picerno. "The Institute will present the war in a way that reflects the values of the college and stress the impact of the war on individuals, community, religion, race, and memory." There are only 103 days left until the end of our fiscal year, June 30, 2008. That means there is still time to help Bridgewater College meet this year's alumni participation goal of 28 percent by making a gift to the Bridgewater Fund. III. ATHLETIC NEWS AND UPDATES

FULK RECORDS CAREER WIN NO. 400

03/17/2008 - Bridgewater College head softball coach Donnie Fulk reached a milestone Saturday with his 400th career victory when the Eagles defeated York College, 6-5, in eight innings, in the first game of a doubleheader.

TURNER PLACES SECOND IN SHOT PUT AT NATIONAL MEET

03/15/2008 - Bridgewater College junior Nathan Turner placed second in the shot put Saturday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at Ohio Northern University. Turner's best throw measured 55-feet, 3/4 inch (16.78 meters). He earned All-America honors with his second-place finish. Click here for complete story.

EAGLES LOSE IN FIRST ROUND OF NCAA TOURNAMENT

03/07/2008 - The College of New Jersey jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and never trailed en route to a 65-52 victory over Bridgewater College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament played Friday at the University of Mary Washington. Bridgewater finished its season with a 15-14 record while the Lions advanced with a 22-6 record. Click here for complete story.


FORMER BC BACK MAKES UIF TEAM ROSTER

03/06/2008 - Former Bridgewater College running back Marcus Washington has made the 30-man roster for the Bloomington Extreme of the United Indoor Football league. The UIF is an eight-team indoor minor pro football team located in the Midwest. Teams are located in Bloomington, Ill.; Billings, Mont.; Fort Collins, Colo.; Omaha, Neb.; St. Charles, Mo.; Sioux City, Iowa; Sioux Falls, S.D.; and Wichita, Kan. Washington is one of 16 newcomers on the 30-man roster. A year ago, the Extreme lost in the league's championship game to Sioux Falls. The Extreme begins its 2008 season Saturday when it hosts Sioux Falls. Click here for complete story.


BOWMAN BREAKS BC CAREER HOME RUN RECORD

03/17/2008 -Bridgewater College junior Kaitlyn Bowman broke the Eagles' career home run record hitting two homers in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader vs. York College. Her second homer in that game gave her 27 for her career, topping the previous mark of 26 held by Kameron Tucker. Bowman added another homer Sunday at Guilford and now has 28 for her career.


IV. ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

COLONEL JIM BENSON, CLASS OF '65, PUBLISHES BOOK

Colonel Jim Benson,'65, president of Marion Military Institute, recently had his first book published by Trafford Publishing. "So You Want to be a Leader?'' is not just about leadership, but deals with a leader's number one resource - people. He began writing the book when on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked on it while serving as the Executive Assistant to the President and Vice President for Administration at Bridgewater College from 1995 to 2004.
