2008 marks the 100-year anniversary of the Commonwealth of Virginia issuing articles of incorporation for the Bridgewater College Alumni Association. The association had been founded almost nine years earlier. From the June evening in 1899 when more than 50 alumni met in what is now Memorial Hall, declaring that "the associations of school life are too precious to be allowed to die," the association moved forward by adopting a constitution and by-laws and electing officers, including three vice presidents, and an executive committee.

They set membership dues at 25 cents. They determined that their objectives would be to recruit students, establish scholarships and raise money for the College's endowment fund - interests that continue to engage alumni a full century after incorporation. After all, we too believe that our "associations of school life are too precious to be allowed to die."
