  • Duquette, Shaffer earn spots in New York league - 06/25/2008

  • Fred DuquetteNolan ShafferBridgewater College graduates Fred Duquette and Nolan Shaffer have earned roster spots in the New York State League this summer.

    Duquette, a lefty, will pitch for the NYSL Federals. Duquette was 5-2 with a 4.60 ERA for the Eagles during his senior season. He struck out 42 batters in 72.1 innings.

    Shaffer, a righthander, will pitch for the NYSL Capitols. Shaffer was 6-4 with a 3.42 ERA as a senior. He struck out 70 in 75 innings of work.

    The New York State League is a developmental league for players who have completed their college eligibility. The games will be played this summer in New York City.
  • Brooks opens season with Rockford Riverhawks - 05/22/2008

  • riverhawksFormer Bridgewater College standout Jono Brooks is playing his second season with the Rockford Riverhawks in the Frontier League.

    The Riverhawks opened their season Wednesday with a 9-1 victory over River City.

    Brooks started at shortstop and hit No. 2 in the order. He was 2-for-5 with two runs batted in during the season-opener.
  • Chrismer, Elkins earn All-Region honors - 05/19/2008

  • Drew ElkinsAndy ChrismerSophomores Andy Chrismer and Drew Elkins earned recognition on the ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region baseball team released Monday.

    Chrismer was named to the All-South Region Second Team at catcher. He hits for a .315 average with four homers and 36 RBIs.

    Chrismer and Elkins were both selected to the ABCA/Rawlings South Region Gold Glove team. Chrismer did not commit an error at catcher to finish with a 1.000 fielding percentage. Elkins made just two errors at first base and finished with a .995 fielding percentage.
  • Elkins earns District 3 academic honor - 05/08/2008

  • Drew ElkinsBridgewater College's Drew Elkins has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 3 College Division baseball second team.

    Elkins is a sophomore, athletic training major from Lynchburg, Va.

    Elkins, a second-team All-ODAC selection at first base, hit for a .343 average. He had 32 RBIs and committed just two errors at first base. He also made 13 appearances on the mound and finished with a 1-0 record and a 4.96 ERA.
  • BC places five on All-ODAC second team - 05/07/2008

  • Aaron ReadBridgewater College placed five players in the All-ODAC second team released Wednesday by the conference office.

    Eagles selected to the second team were Mike Lenox (DH), Drew Elkins (1B), Aaron Read (2B), Andrew Chrismer (C) and Mike Graves (OF).

    Named honorable mention on the All-ODAC team was pitcher Nolan Shaffer. Brad Buracker was the Eagles’ representative on the All-ODAC sportsmanship team.

    Lenox finished the season with a .335 average and 29 RBIs. He tied for the team lead in homers with six. Elkins hit for a .343 average. He had 32 RBIs and committed just two errors at first base.. Read led the team in hitting with a .345 average. He had 32 RBIs and a team-high 13 doubles. Chrismer finished with a .315 batting average and led the Eagles in runs batted in with 36. Graves finished the season with a .306 batting average. [All-ODAC Baseball Team]
