Facility

Nested along the banks of the North River in the southwest corner of campus is one of the finest small college baseball facilities in the country. Located on the Jopson Field Athletic Complex, the facility has undergone renovations twice due to flooding, with the latest caused by Hurricane Fran in 1996.

The field is a bluegrass playing surface that was resodded in the spring of 1997. In the summer of 1999, the underground irrigation system was upgraded. The infield dirt is a natural clay-loam mix that is shipped in and added on a yearly basis.

The field measure 325 feet down the left field line, 375 feet in the left field power alley, 405 feet to straight away center, 350 feet to the right field power alley, and 305 feet down the right field line. Two yellow 25 foot foul poles rise above the fence to mark the foul lines. A gravel warning track surrounds the outfield fence. In 1998, windscreen was added to the outfield fence and the backstop. Yellow protective tubing was also added to the top of the outfield fence. A flag pole was installed in 1999 outside the centerfield fence with plans to add two more flag poles for state and conference flags in the near future.

Two 75 foot hitting tunnels with concrete/astroturf flooring were installed in 1997. The field also has four bullpen mounds, two dugouts, two on-deck circles added in 1999, a press box with a PA system, two storage sheds, and an electronic scoreboard.

The grandstand provides seating for 500 spectators. Located behind the grandstand is a concession stand, training room, restroom, and a storage shed that provides accessibility and convenience to the field.
