Records & History

According to newspaper reports, Bridgewater became the first college in the State of Virginia to sponsor a basketball team in 1902. However, detailed records of the program are not available until the 1921-1922 season.

The men's basketball program has more than 700 wins to its credit, with 335 of those coming under the direction of Bill Leatherman-the school's all-time winningest coach.

Leatherman retired following the 07/08 season with a career record of 335-262, 4 conference coach of the year awards, three NCAA tournament teams, 15 all-conference players, four conference players of the year, and three first team all-americans. Under his watch, there have been thirteen 1,000-point scorers.

Kyle Williford, a consensus first team all-american during the 2001-2002 season, holds three Bridgewater records; 193 career blocked shots, 67 blocked shots during the 2000-2001 season, and 56 points in a game versus Roanoke on January 16, 2002. He finished his career with 1,927 points (third all-time) and 909 rebounds (fifth).
