  • Smith places fifth at IHSA National Show - 05/09/2008

  • Cary Smith Bridgewater College's Cary Smith placed fifth Friday at the IHSA National Show in Los Angeles.

    Clark finished fifth in a class of 10 riders in the Walk-Trot-Canter Equitation class.

    Kristin Putnam of St. Lawrence University (NY) placed first in the class.

    Earlier at the national show, BC's Lindsay Clark placed third in Open Equitation Over Fences.

  • Lindsay ClarkBridgewater College sophomore Lindsay Clark placed third at the IHSA National Show in Los Angeles.

    Clark finished third in a class of 10 riders in the Open Equitation Over Fences.

    Sarah Spainhour of Clemson University placed first in the class and UCLA rider Savannah Cook finished second.

    Bridgewater's Cary Smith will compete today in Walk-Trot-Canter Equitation.
  • Two BC riders qualify for national show - 04/17/2008

  • Cary SmithLindsay ClarkTwo Bridgewater College riders earned a trip to the IHSA National Show with their performances in the recent Zones show hosted by Randolph College.

    Lindsay Clark was champion in Open Over Fences and Cary Smith was reserve champion in Walk-Trot-Canter at Zones. Riders needed to place in the top two in the class to earn a trip to nationals.

    This year's national show will be held at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center on May 8-11 in Burbank, California.
  • Eagles take reserve championship at ODAC Show - 04/11/2008

  • ThorntonHollins University edged Bridgewater College for the championship Friday at the ODAC Horse Show held at the Bridgewater College Equestrian Center. Hollins finished the show with 17 points, one more than the Eagles.

    The Eagles won both Equitation Over Fences classes to hold the lead entering the final class, but BC finished fifth in the Equitation on the Flat to finish as reserve champion overall.

    For the second consecutive year, the Eagles took home ODAC Rider of the Year honors with Patti Ann Thornton earning the top award. Thornton turned in the highest score of the show with an 89 average in the second Equitation Over Fences class.

    Thornton was joined on the All-ODAC team by teammates Lindsay Clark and Gillian Duca Cora.
  • BC set to host ODAC Championship Show - 04/10/2008

  • Bridgewater College will host the ODAC Championship riding show on Friday April 11 at the Bridgewater College Equestrian Center.

    The championship show will being a 1 p.m. and will feature rides from Lynchburg College, Randolph College, Hollins University, Sweet Briar College, Washington & Lee University and Bridgewater College.

    Bridgewater College is the defending show champion. [Directions to BCEC]
  • Seven riders qualify for zones competition - 03/02/2008

  • Bridgewater College participated in the IHSA regional show this weekend at Sweet Briar College and seven riders qualified for zones competition.

    The following riders placed in the top three at the regional show to advance to the zones.
    Lindsay Clark – third place open over fences, second place open on the flat
    Emily Wolek – third place intermediate over fences
    Patti Ann Thornton – third place open on the flat
    Lindsay Barrett – first place intermediate on the flat
    March Ryan – third place novice on the flat
    Cary Smith – third place walk-trot-canter

    The Eagles finished the season second overall in the region team standings.

  • Several Bridgewater riders placed at the University of Virginia and Hollins shows held on Feb. 23 and Feb. 24.

  • Eagles qualify seven for regional show - 02/28/2008

  • The Bridgewater College equestrian team has qualified seven riders for Friday's regional show at Sweet Briar College.

    Riding for the Eagles will be Lindsey Barrett, Lindsay Clark, March Ryan, Cary Smith, Patti Ann Thornton, Jocelyn Willbanks and Emily Wolek.
  • Riders having a strong spring season - 02/23/2008

  • testlogoThe Bridgewater College riding team is having a solid spring season as the Eagles have placed first in two shows and second in a third outing this spring.

    The Eagles opened their spring season with a second-place showing at the Randolph College/Lynchburg College show on Feb. 8.

    Emily Wolek was the lone winner for the Eagles, placing first in intermediate fences. Earning second-place finishes were Lindsay Clark, open fences and open flat; Lindsey Barrett, intermediate flat; Cary Smith, advanced walk-trot-canter and Victoria Monds, walk/trot. Jocelyn Wilbanks placed third in novice flat and Chelsea Hames placed fourth in novice fences. Placing sixth were Katelyn Mancini, open fences, Wilbanks, intermediate fences and Lindsay Ferguson, novice flat.

    On Feb. 10, the Eagles traveled to the Sweet Briar IHSA show and placed first overall.

    Earning first-place finishes for the Eagles were Patti Ann Thornton, open fences; Jaime Robinson, advanced walk-trot-canter and Julia Stutzman, walk-trot. Placing second were Lindsay Clark, open fences and Chelsea Hames, novice flat. Jocelyn Wilbanks placed third in novice flat and Hames placed third in novice fences. Clark was fourth in open flat and Emily Wolek was fourth in intermediate fences. March Ryan added a fifth place in intermediate flat.

    Bridgewater hosted a show at the Bridgewater College Equestrian Center on Feb. 16 and tied with Hollins for first place.

    Taking first-place ribbons for the Eagles were Patti Ann Thornton, open flat; Jaime Robinson, advanced walk-trot-canter and Sarah Davis, walk-trot. Emily Wolek placed second in intermediate fences and Chelsea Hames was second in novice fences. Lindsey Barrett added a third place in intermediate flat. Placing fourth for BC were Lindsay Clark, open fences and Jocelyn Wilbanks,
  • Riders place second in final fall show - 11/04/2007

  • The Bridgewater College riding team placed second in its final show of the fall season Saturday at the Bridgewater College Equestrian Center.

    Placing first for the Eagles were Lindsay Clark in open over fences and open flat, Pattie Ann Thornton in open flat, Lindsay Ferguson in novice flat, Kristina Mobley in advanced walk-trot-canter, Gillian Duca Cora in open over fences and Chelsea Hames in novice fences.

    Other finishes included: Julia Stutzman, second in walk-trot; Emily Wolek, second in intermediate fences; Kristen Banks, fourth in novice flat; March Ryan, sixth in intermediate flat and Rachel Griner, sixth in novice fences.

    The Eagles return to action Feb. 8 when they travel to Lynchburg for an IHSA show hosted by Lynchburg College and Randolph College.
  • Riding team finished third at Hollins - 10/22/2007

  • The Bridgewater College riding team placed third at the Hollins show this past weekend.

    Lindsay Clark placed first in open fences and Cary Smith finished first in advanced walk-trot-canter to pace the Bridgewater effort.

    Other results for the Eagles included: Jocelyn Wilbanks, second in novice flat; Julia Stutzman, third in walk trot and March Ryan, third in intermediate flat; Rachel Griner and Ryan, fourth in novice fences; Patti Ann Thornton fifth in open fences and open flat; Lindsey Barrett, fith in intermediate flat and Clark, sixth in open flat. The team will complete its fall schedule on Nov. 3 when its hosts a show at the Bridgewater College Equestrian Center.
  • BC riders place at Lynchburg - 10/16/2007

  • testlogoSeveral Bridgewater College riders placed at the Randolph College/Lynchburg College IHSA Show on Oct. 12.

    C.J. Caniglia placed sixth in open fences and Emily Wolek took fifth in intermediate fences.

    Patti Ann Thornton and Lindsay Clark finished third in open flat and Lindsey Barrett placed second in intermediate flat. In novice flat, March Ryan placed second and Chelsea Holmes placed fifth.

  • Riders place second at Radford show - 10/10/2007

  • The Bridgewater College riding team placed second at the Radford show this past weekend.

    The Eagles finished with 35 points, just behind Hollins with 38 points.

    Four BC riders placed first in their respective classes. Patti Ann Thornton placed first in open flat, Rachel Griner was first in novice fences, Lindsay Ferguson was first in novice flat and Julia Stutzman placed first in Walk-Trot.

  • Riders win ODAC Championship! - 04/06/2007

  • The Bridgewater College riding team won the program’s first ODAC Championship on Friday at Sweet Briar College.

    The Eagles finished the show with 19 points, edging Randolph-Macon Woman's College by two points for the championship.

    The BC program swept the conferences major awards for the 2006-07 riding season.

    Bridgewater College freshman Lindsay Clark took top conference honors when she was named ODAC Rookie of the Year and ODAC Rider of the Year.

    Bridgewater’s C.J. Caniglia also grabbed one of the conference’s top honors when he was named the ODAC Equestrian Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

    Also, Bridgewater head coach Sarah Irvine was named the ODAC Riding Coach of the Year for the 2006-07 season.

    Joining Clark on the All-ODAC team was last year's ODAC Rookie of the Year, Patti Ann Thornton.
  • BC riders place third at Zones - 04/02/2007

  • WilbanksBridgewater College’s Patti Ann Thornton and Jocelyn Wilbanks each placed third at the Zone 4 Finals hosted by Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.

    Thornton was third in Open Flat while Wilbanks placed third in Walk-Trot-Canter.

    The duo just missed qualifying for the national show as the top two riders in each class qualified for nationals.

  • ThorntonTwo Bridgewater College riders took first-place ribbons at the Zone 4, Region 2 finals hosted by Hollins University.

    Patti Ann Thornton was the Region Champion in Open Flat and also placed third in the Caccione Cup standings. Jocelyn Wilbanks won the region title in Walk-Trot-Canter.

    Gillian Duca Cora placed fifth at the Region 2 show in Intermediate Fences and Meaghan McNeil placed fifth in Novice Fences.

    Thornton and Wilbanks qualified for the Zone 4 Finals.
  • Eagles win Hollins show, finish second in region - 04/02/2007

  • Bridgewater College rode to a first-place finish at the Hollins IHSA Show this past weekend.

    Taking first-place ribbons were Camalee Lihos in Novice Fences, Patti Ann Thornton in Open Flat, Jocelyn Wilbanks in Novice Flat and Cary Snith in Walk-Trot-Canter.

    Victoria Monds placed second in Walk-Trot while Emily Wolek in Intermediate Fences finished third. Allison May was fourth in Intermediate Flat and Lindsay Clark placed fifth in Open Fences.

    The Eagles finished second in the Region 2 standings, finishing just nine points behind Hollins University.

  • Riders place first at BC show - 02/17/2007

  • CanigliaThe Bridgewater College riding team placed first overall with 44 points Saturday at the Bridgewater IHSA show held at Oak Manor Farms.

    Lindsay Clark and C.J. Caniglia placed first for Bridgewater in open fences and Patti Ann Thornton added a first in open flat.

    Gillian Duca Cora placed first in intermediate fences , Jocelyn Wilbanks was first in novice flat and Maggie McCourt added a first in advanced walk-trot-canter.

    Other finishes for Bridgewater included Camalee Lihos second and Rachel Griner fourth in novice fences, Clark third in open flat, Allison May third in intermediate flat and Sarah Davis second in walk-trot.

    Clark was the show’s high-point rider.

    Following Saturday’s show, the Eagles are second in the region standings, 13 points behind Hollins.
  • Riders fare well at weekend shows - 02/12/2007

  • ClarkThe Bridgewater College riding team participated in a pair of IHSA shows this weekend with several riders earning first-place honors.

    Overall, the Eagles finished second at the Sweet Briar IHSA show, just two points behind Hollins, and sixth at the Randolph-Macon Woman's College IHSA show. Bridgewater is now third in the regional standings.

    At the Sweet Briar show, Lindsay Clark was the reserve high-point rider after placing first in both open fences and open flat. The BC riders swept the top three spots in open flat with Patti Ann Thornton taking second and Nikki Guthrie third.

    Jocelyn Wilbanks also picked up a first in advanced walk-trot-canter. Other top finishers for BC were Gillian Duca Cora, second in intermediate flat; Lindsey Barrett, sixth in intermediate flat; Katleyn Mancini, fifth in intermediate fences; March Ryan, second in novice flat; Camalee Lihos, fifth in novice fences and Victoria Monds, third in walk-trot.

    At the Randolph-Macon Woman’s College IHSA show, Thonton placed first in open flat with Clark finishing fifth. In open fences, C.J. Caniglia placed second, followed by Clark in fourth.

    Allison May placed first in intermediate flat while in intermediate fences, Emily Wolek placed fifth and Duca Cora sixth.

    Ryan took fifth place in novice flat and Lihos finished third in novice fences.

    Wilbanks placed first in advanced walk-trot-canter and Monds placed sixth in walk-trot.
  • Eagles claim title at RMWC Show - 12/04/2006

  • The Bridgewater College riding team won the title Friday at the Randolph-Macon Woman’s College IHSA show.

    Taking first place honors for the Eagles were Emily Wolak in intermediate fences, Camalle Lihos in novice fences, March Ryan in novice flat, Jocelyn Wilbanks in walk-trot-canter and Victoria Monds in walk-trot.

    Gillian Duca Cora placed second in intermediate fences and also took fourth in intermediate flat. Patti Ann Thornton was third in open flat, CJ Caniglia placed fourth in open fences and Rachel Griner took fifth in novice flat.

  • The Bridgewater College riding team participated at the Radford University show Sunday. Jocelyn Wilbanks placed first in walk-trot-canter and Rachel Griner took first in Novice Flat to pace the Eagles. Other results for BC included:

  • The Bridgewater College riding team participated in the Tournament of Champions hosted by Hollins University.

    C.J. Caniglia finished second in Open Over Fences and Patti Ann Thornton was second in Open Equitation on the Flat to lead the Eagles’ effort.

    Gillian Duca Cora placed fifth in Intermediate Over Fences, Lindsey Barrett was fifth in Intermediate Equitation on the Flat, and Maggie McCourt was fifth in Advanced Walk, Trot, Canter. Barrett was reserve call in Novice Over Fences, March Ryan was reserve call in Novice Equitation on the Flat and Sarah Davis was second reserve call in Walk, Trot.
