  • Eagles announce incoming recruiting class - 06/10/2009

  • Bridgewater College first year men's soccer coach Matt O'Toole has announced his first recruiting class that will take the field this fall.

    Zak Kruger, GK, Hanover, PA, South Western H.S.
    Coach O'Toole Comments:
    "Zak is good competitor and has performed well for his high school and club teams. He is a leader from the back, very vocal and keeps his defense organized. Zak will compete for playing time in the goal for the Eagles this fall."

    Kevin Gorman, B, Annapolis, MD, Mount St. Joseph H.S.
    Coach O'Toole Comments:
    "Kevin is a well disciplined player who has great anticipation. Rarely out of position, he is always disrupting the opponent’s play and joining in on his team’s attack. Kevin will compete for playing time in the back for the Eagles this fall."

    Daniel Visone, B/MF, Fredericksburg, VA, Colonial Forge H.S.
    Coach O'Toole Comments:
    "Danny combines well with teammates in the run of play, looks to keep the ball moving and gain the final third. He has good field awareness and seeks out 1v1 matchups. Danny will compete for playing time in the back and midfield for the Eagles this fall."

    Taylor Overstreet, MF, Bedford, VA, Liberty H.S.
    Coach O'Toole Comments:
    Taylor has very strong field vision and consistently makes passes away from pressure. He is also very accurate on restarts, turning crosses into scoring opportunities for his teammates. Taylor will compete for playing time in the midfield for the Eagles this fall."

    Ryan Tavernaris, MF, Staunton, VA, Fort Defiance H.S.
    Coach O'Toole Comments:
    "Ryan has a great work ethic and engine. He is always putting pressure on opponents and does an excellent job of linking his midfield with the forwards. Ryan will compete for playing time in the midfield for the Eagles this fall."

    Ryan Morgan, F/MF, Tappahannock, VA, Essex H.S.
    Coach O'Toole Comments:
    "Ryan carries his athleticism all over the field. Capable of playing in different positions, he uses his strength and abilities to compete for balls and jumpstart his team’s attack. Ryan will compete for playing time at forward and midfield for the Eagles this fall."

    Adam Riner, F, Gordonsville, VA, Louisa County H.S.
    Coach O'Toole Comments:
    "Adam is a quick and strong player. He does a great job of keeping possession in the final third and creating scoring chances for his team. Adam will compete for playing time at forward for the Eagles this fall."
  • Eagles announce 2009 schedule - 05/28/2009

  • Shane O'DonnellBridgewater College men's soccer head coach Matt O'Toole has announced the schedule for the 2009 Eagles.

    The Eagles will play their first six games away from home, including action in a pair of tournaments.

    Bridgewater opens the season on Sept. 1 with a non-conference match at Southern Virginia.

    The Eagles then travel to play in the Roanoke College tournament Sept. 4-5 where Bridgewater will face Ohio Northern and Philadelphia Bible.

    After a road game at Marymount on Sept. 9, the Eagles travel to St. Mary's (Md.) for the first ODAC-CAC Challenge on Sept 12-13. Bridgewater will meet Centennial Conference foes Salisbury and St. Mary's.

    Bridgewater opens its home schedule on Sept. 16 with a non-conference contest against Averett University.

    The rest of the home slate features a non-conference contest against N.C. Wesleyan and conference matches with Lynchburg, Hampden-Sydney, Eastern Mennonite, Virginia Wesleyan and Washington and Lee. [2009 Men's Soccer Schedule]
  • Team completes spring season with alumni event - 05/12/2009

  • Spring SoccerThe Bridgewater College men’s soccer team completed its successful spring season with a cookout with alumni during Alumni weekend at Bridgewater College.

    With close to 100 people including the men’s and women’s soccer programs, staff, family, friends and alumni from both programs, the potluck cookout provided a great opportunity for alums from both programs to socialize and meet the current student-athletes.

    “For me, being able to meet the alumni as well as speaking with current parents was a great benefit. Hearing their experiences with the program and the College helped add to my understanding of the program’s history," first year men's soccer head coach Matthew O’Toole said.

    The Eagles will have 17 returning players from the 2008 campaign. BC will open the 2009 season on the road at Southern Virginia on Sept. 1.
  • Thomas named to Scholar All-American team - 01/12/2009

  • ThomasBridgewater College senior Chris Thomas has been named to the 2008 NSCAA/adidas College Division Scholar All-American Second Team. The team is selected by the National Soccer Coachs of Ameria Association (NSCAA). Thomas was also named to the NSCAA Scholar All-Region first team.

    Thomas, an international studies and Spanish major from Bowie, Md., carries a 3.9 grade point average. He led the ODAC this season in scoring and is Bridgewater's all-time leader in goals scored, assists and points.

    He was a first-team All-ODAC pick in voting by the league coaches and was also selected as the ODAC Men's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Year. Thomas was also named to ESPN The Magazine's College Division Men's Soccer Academic All-American second team earlier this year.
  • Thomas named to All-State first team - 01/06/2009

  • ThomasBridgewater College senior Chris Thomas has been named to the VaSID All-State College Division Men's Soccer First Team in voting by the state's sports information directors.

    Thomas led the ODAC this season in scoring and is Bridgewater's all-time leader in goals scored, assists and points. Earlier this year, he was a first-team All-ODAC pick in voting by the league coaches and was also selected as the ODAC Men's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Year. Thomas was a second-team Academic All-American selection and a second team All-South Region pick.
