  • Thomas named to all-state first team - 12/12/2007

  • ThomasBridgewater College junior Chris Thomas was named to the VaSID College Division men's soccer all-state first team released Wednesday.

    Thomas ranked among the leaders in the ODAC in goals and assists. He was sixth in goals scored with seven and second in assists with seven. [All-State team]
  • Thomas named to All-ODAC first team - 11/09/2007

  • ThomasLineberryBridgewater College junior Chris Thomas was named to the All-ODAC Men’s Soccer first team released Friday.

    Thomas ranked among the conference leaders in goals and assists. He was sixth in goals scored with seven and second in assists with seven.

    Bridgewater junior goalkeeper Zane Lineberry was named honorable mention on the All-ODAC team.
  • Hornets blank Eagles - 10/23/2007

  • men soccer logoLynchburg College defeated the Bridgewater College Eagles, 3-0, Tuesday afternoon in ODAC men's soccer action.

    Bridgewater goalkeeper Zane Lineberry kept the Eagles close for most of the contest as he faced a barrage of shots from the Hornets and finished with 13 saves.

    The Eagles finished their season with a 3-15 overall record and a 1-8 mark in the conference.
  • Marymount defeats Eagles, 4-1 - 10/20/2007

  • ThomasMarymount University handed Bridgewater College a 4-1 defeat Saturday night in men’s soccer action.

    The Eagles scored first when Chris Thomas assisted on Shane O’Donnell’s goal at the 3:28 mark. Andrew Stearns scored twice for the Saints, giving the hosts a 2-1 lead at the break. Justin Domes and Paul Decker added second-half goal to complete the Marymount scoring.

    With the loss, the Eagles drop to 3-14 on the season.
  • Maroons turn back Eagles, 4-2 - 10/17/2007

  • men soccer logoRoanoke College defeated Bridgewater College, 4-2, in ODAC men's soccer action Wednesday night.

    Chris Thomas scored both goals for the Eagles.

    Bridgewater is now 3-12 overall and 1-7 in the ODAC. The Eagles are back in action Saturday night when they travel to play Marymount in non-conference action.
  • W&L blanks Eagles, 2-0 - 10/13/2007

  • men soccer logoBridgewater College lost Saturday afternoon, 2-0, to conference-leading Washington & Lee in men's soccer action.

    The Generals led 1-0 at the half on a goal by Whitt Larkin on an assist from John Lindsay.

    The score remained 1-0 until the 70th minute when Lindsay scored off an assist from Tommy Pignatelli.

    With the loss the Eagles drop to 3-12 overall and 1-6 in the ODAC. W&L is 9-1-2 overall and 5-0-1 in the ODAC
  • Eagles defeat Randolph College, 3-0 - 10/10/2007

  • men soccer logoChris Thomas scored one goal and assisted on two others to lead the Bridgewater College Eagles to a 3-0 victory over Randolph College on Wednesday.

    The Eagles led 1-0 at the half on an Austin Stemper goal off an assist from Thomas.

    The scored remained 1-0 until Thomas scored at the 69:49 mark. Thomas later assisted on a goal by Shane O'Donnell to cap the Eagles' scoring.

    Zane Lineberry recorded the shutout with six saves on the day.

    With the victory, the Eagles improve to 3-11.
  • Randolph-Macon edges Eagles, 2-1 - 10/06/2007

  • men soccer logoRandolph-Macon scored early in the second half and held on the rest of the way to defeat the Eagles, 2-1, in ODAC men's soccer action Saturday.

    The Eagles scored first when Chris Thomas found the net in the 24th minute. Randolph-Macon's Scott Landolt tied the score at the 33.22 mark and the teams went to the break tied at 1-1.

    Randolph-Macon's Brad Line broke the tie with a goal at the 55:02 mark and the Yellow Jackets made the lead stand up the rest of the way.

    The Eagles drop to 2-11 overall and 1-5 in the ODAC while the Yellow Jackets improve to 5-7 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
  • Hampden-Sydney defeats Eagles - 10/02/2007

  • men soccer logoHampden-Syndey's Will Robertson broke a scoreless tie in the first minute of the second half Tuesday and the Tigers went on to defeat Bridgewater College, 3-1, in ODAC men's soccer action.

    Jason Butler and David Burley added goals for the Tigers to make it 3-0.

    The Eagles averted the shutout in the final minute when Shane O'Donnell scored off an assist from Chris Thomas.

    The Eagles are now 2-10 on the season and 1-4 in the ODAC. Hampden-Sydney is now 6-4-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the ODAC.
  • Eagles edge E&H, 2-1 - 09/29/2007

  • men soccer logoBridgewater College broke a scoreless tie with two second half goals and then held on to defeat Emory & Henry, 2-1, Saturday in ODAC men's soccer action.

    The Eagles took the lead in the 59th minute when Chris Thomas scored off an assist from Shane O'Donnell. In the 83rd minute, Thomas assisted on a goal by Kevin Milluzzi, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

    The Wasps scored with just 3:12 left ot play on Erik Olson's goal, but the Eagles turned E&H away in the closing minutes to take the victory.

    Zane Lineberry faced 17 shots from the Wasps and recorded seven saves.

    The victory snapped a six-game losing streak for the Eagles. BC is now 2-9 overall and 1-3 in the ODAC. E&H is 7-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
  • St. Mary's defeats Eagles - 09/26/2007

  • men soccer logoAlex Pyzik and Mikael Tigrett scored two goals apiece Wednesday to lead St. Mary's to a 4-1 non-coference victory over the Bridgewater College Eagles in men's soccer action.

    The Eagles scored first on a goal by Shane O'Donnell at 8:35 but the Seahawks responded with a goal by Pyzik and the teams went to the half tied at 1-1.

    Tigrett put St. Mary's ahead early in the second half and the Seahawks controlled play the rest of the way to take the 4-1 victory.

    The Eagles are now 1-9 on the season.
  • University of Dallas defeats Eagles - 09/23/2007

  • men soccer logoBridgewater scored the first goal of the match Sunday afternoon, but the University of Dallas controlled play the rest of the way to take a 5-1 non-conference victory in men’s soccer action.

    Shane O’Donnell scored off an assist from Austin Stemper to put the Eagles on top at the 15:53 mark, but Stuart Brown scoring the tying goal for Dallas and Adam Lunger put the visitors ahead to stay with a goal at the 35:12 mark. Brandon Washatka added another Dallas goal three minutes later and the visitors led 3-1 at the half.

    Rob Burton and Lunger added second-half goals for Dallas, now 6-0-1 on the season.

    The Eagles are now 1-8.
  • Marlins shut out Eagles, 4-0 - 09/21/2007

  • men soccer logoVirginia Wesleyan College remained undefeated on the season with a 4-0 victory over Bridgewater College in ODAC men's soccer action Friday.

    The Marlins led just 1-0 at the half, but controlled play in the second half to pull away for the victory.

    Brandon Massie scored two goals to lead the Marlins attack.

    The Marlins improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the ODAC. BC is now 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
  • Royals edge Bridgewater, 2-1 - 09/19/2007

  • men soccer logoEastern Mennonite score the go-ahead goal with 15:59 left in the game Wednesday afternoon to defeat the Bridgewater College Eagles, 2-1, in ODAC men’s soccer action.

    EMU led 1-0 at the half on an unassisted goal by Junior Kamandua. The Royals maintained the lead until the 59:41 mark when Shane O’Donnell scored for the Eagles to tie the score.

    The Royals scored the game-winner when Jared Byler received a perfect pass from Kamandua and then found the net for the deciding goal.

    With the victory, EMU improves to 2-4-1 overall and 1-0 in the ODAC. Bridgewater drops to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the ODAC.
  • Guilford rallies to defeat Eagles - 09/15/2007

  • men soccer logoGuilford College’s Joe Rigert scored the winnng goal at the 57:50 mark to lift the Quakers to a 3-2 victory in ODAC men’s soccer action Saturday afternoon.

    The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of the contest. Chris Dobson scored off a pass from Chris Thomas for the first goal and then Thomas scored after stealing the ball from a Guilford defender to give BC a 2-0 lead.

    Guilford scored on a goal by Neil Meguid and then tied the score on a goal by Scott Meguid at the 32:21 mark.

    The Eagles drop to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the ODAC while Guilford is 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the ODAC. [Boxscore]
  • Eagles drop 5-0 contest to Johns Hopkins - 09/12/2007

  • men soccer logoJohns Hopkins broke open a scoreless contest with two goals less than one minute apart in the first half and went on to defeat Bridgewater College 5-0 Wednesday.

    Johns Hopkins, ranked No. 10 in the nation, took the lead on a goal by Chand Balfour at the 16:30 mark and 39 seconds later Scott Bukowski scored to make it 2-0. Nick Guana, David Drake and Brian Esoda also scored for the winners.

    BC keeper Jack Bottoms finished with 12 saves while facing 35 shots. Neil MacLean finished with one save for Johns Hopkins as the Eagles managed just five shots in the contest.

    Johns Hopkins is now 6-0 while Bridgewater drops to 1-4.
  • Eagles Defeat SVU, 2-1 - 09/08/2007

  • men soccer logoThe Bridgewater College men's soccer team defeated Southern Virginia University, 2-1, in non-conference soccer action to pick up their first win of the season.

    Junior Chris Thomas put the Eagles on the scoreboard early in the first half. Freshman Shane O'Donnell scored midway through the second half to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Ben Griffin scored for SVU at the 5:08 mark for the final score.

    Goalkeeper Zane Lineberry had 14 saves for B.C.

    The Eagles take on nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday, Sept. 12th.
  • Greensboro turns back Eagles, 4-1 - 09/05/2007

  • men soccer logoNationally-ranked Greensboro College improved its record to 3-0 with a 4-1 victory over the Bridgewater College Eagles in non-conference men's soccer action.

    Greensboro, ranked No. 2 in the NCSAA Division III Top 25 poll, led 2-0 on goals by Robert Fricke and Deng Abiel.

    The Eagles kept the score at 2-0 until a goal by BC freshman Chris Dobson trimmed the margin to 2-1 midway through the second half.

    Greensboro responded with goals by Grayson Leonard and Troy Mellanson to pull away from the Eagles in the final 20 minutes of play.

    Bridgewater, now 0-3, is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Southern Virginia. That match time has been moved to 5:30 p.m.
  • Eagles try to overcome inexperience - 09/05/2007

  • msoocerlogo A young and inexperience Bridgewater College soccer team opened its season with losses to Rutgers-Camden and John Carroll at the Roanoke Invitational.

    The schedule doesn't get any easier with nationally-ranked Greensboro and Johns Hopkins due to visit Bridgewater in the next week.

  • John Carroll blanks Eagles - 09/01/2007

  • men soccer logoBridgewater dropped to 0-2 on the season as the Eagles were defeated by John Carroll, 5-0, Saturday at Roanoke College.

    Scott McKinney scored three goals for John Carroll, now 1-1 on the season.

    John Carroll finished with 13 shots on goal, compared to six for the Eagles.

    The Eagles play their home opener this Wednesday when they host Greensboro College in a non-conference contest.
  • Rutgers-Camden blanks Eagles in opener - 09/01/2007

  • men soccer logoRutgers-Camden defeated the Bridgewater College Eagles, 2-0, Friday night at Roanoke College.

    Rutgers-Camden scored both goals early in the first half. Rodney Guishard scored at the 20:28 mark to make it 1-0 and Torgut Kilcoglu added a goal at the 32:47 mark to complete the score.

    Brent Grunow had four saves to record the shutout for the winers.

    Rutgers-Camden had 12 shots on goal during the contest while Bridgewater managed just seven shots on goal. BC keeper Jack Bottoms finished with four saves in his first career start.

    The Eagles are back in action Saturday afternoon with a 5 p.m. contest against John Carroll at Roanoke College.
  • ODAC Releases Men's Soccer Pre-Season Picks - 08/30/2007

  • ODAC logoThe Bridgewater College men's soccer team was picked ninth in the O.D.A.C. preseason coaches poll.

    Only one vote separates the top two spots in the 2007 ODAC Men’s Soccer Preseason Poll as Roanoke College sits a slim favorite over Virginia Wesleyan College atop the annual coaches’ survey. The Maroons received six first place votes and 88 overall tallies while the Marlins managed 87 total votes including a pair of first place nods. Lynchburg College, the defending league champion, rounds out the top three with 81 votes and the remaining two top spot considerations.

    Washington & Lee were picked fourth, followed by Hampden-Sydney, Eastern Mennonite, Randolph Macon, Guilford, BC, and Emory & Henry.
  • Eagles' Thomas earns All-Region honor - 01/10/2007

  • Chris ThomasBridgewater College sophomore Chris Thomas has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Region third team.

    Thomas led the Eagles in scoring this season with 18 points on seven goals and four assists. He was a second-team All-ODAC selection. [2006 NSCAA/adidas® NCAA Division III Men All-South Region]
  • Three Eagles earn All-ODAC recognition - 12/04/2006

  • Bridgewater College had three players honored on the All-ODAC men’s soccer team released Wednesday. Sophomore forward Chris Thomas and senior midfielder John Costello were named to the All-ODAC second team. Thomas led the Eagles in goals with seven and points with 18. Costello was the second-leading scorer on the team with 14 points. Senior Tim Bason received honorable mention on the All-ODAC team. Basom scored two goals and added three assists this season for the Eagles. Roanoke’s Eric Eversole was named ODAC Player of the Year and Virginia Wesleyan’s Brandon Massie was named Rookie of the Year. Lynchburg’s Chris Yeager was named Coach of the Year and Hampden-Sydney’s Greg Smith was voted Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
  • Men's soccer eliminated - 12/04/2006

  • The Bridgewater College men’s soccer team was eliminated from the ODAC tournament Sunday with a 2-1 loss at top-seeded Roanoke College. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the second half on John Costello’s goal, but Roanoke’s Eric Eversole scored two goals in the final 20 minutes to rally the Maroons. Bridgewater finishes the season with a 7-11-1 record.
