The Bridgewater College women's soccer team lost a tough 1-0 decision in double overtime to Randolph-Macon in ODAC action Wednesday.Randolph-Macon's Ashley Malinowski scored the game's only goal just three minutes into the second overtime period. Bridgewater had several opportunites to score, the best coming in the final 15 seconds of regulation when Megan Groos' header bounced off the crossbar. Bridgewater is now 1-2 in the ODAC and 3-7-1 overall. Randolph-Macon improves to 2-2 in the conference and 6-3 overall. |
The Bridgewater College women's soccer team lost Sunday at Methodist, 4-1, in non-conference action.Methodist scored all of its goals in the first 27 minutes to take control of the contest. Ashley Andes scored the lone BC goal late in the first half. The Eagles are now 3-6-1 on the season. |

Bridgewater College earned its first ODAC victory of the year defeating the Emory and Henry College Wasps, 1-0, Saturday afternoon.Junior Kathy Bundrick scored the winning goal at the 69:53 mark to give the Eagles the edge and they proceeded to keep the Wasps at bay over the final 20 minutes to earn the victory. The Eagles outshot the Wasps 14-4 and BC goalkeeper Shauna Manovich earned the shutout while recording one save. The Eagles are now 3-4-1 overall and 1-1 in the ODAC while the Wasps drop to 7-2 overall and 1-1 in the ODAC. The Eagles return to action Tuesday when they travel to Roanoke for a ODAC contest. Megan Smith scored four goals and Krista Ready added three Thursday to lead Bridgewater College to a 12-0 victory over Mary Baldwin in non-conference women's soccer action. Sarah Taylor, Caroline Bundrick, Jessica Wampler, Kendra Gillgren and Brittany Johnson each scored one goal for the Eagles. Megan Groos recorded three assists and Taylor added one assist. The Eagles are now 2-4-1 overall. |

Bridgewater College picked up its first victory of the season Saturday with a 3-2 double-overtime victory over North Carolina Wesleyan at the Meredith College Espirit D3 Invitational. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead late in the first half on a goal by Caroline Bundrick, but the Bishops tied the game early in the second half and then took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Meredith Hester with just more than 25 minutest left to play. Bridgewater tied the score on a goal by Ashley Andes at the 69:28 mark and the contest went to overtime. Just seconds into the second overtime, Andes scored the game-winning goal for BC’s first win of the season. Bridgewater is now 1-3 on the season. Bridgewater College opened its women’s soccer season Saturday at Jopson Field with a 4-0 loss to Catholic University on the first day of the BC Invitational.In Saturday’s other contest, Ramapo defeated Buffalo State, 3-1. Catholic scored on its first possession of the game when Diana Spadaro lofted a shot over the keeper’s head from 25 yards out to put the Cardinals on the board just 30 seconds into the contest. The scored remained 1-0 through the remainder of the first half, but Catholic struck quickly in the second half to take control. Caitline Brett scored two goals in the second half and Spadaro added another goal to complete the Cardinals scoring. |
The Bridgewater College women’s soccer team was picked to finish eighth in the ODAC preseason coaches’ poll released Wednesday.Virginia Wesleyan was picked to win the 12-team conference and received six first-place votes. Lynchburg was second with four first-place votes, followed by Roanoke in third and Washington and Lee in fourth, each with one first-place ballot. The remainder of the poll features Eastern Mennonite in fifth followed by Guilford, Randolph-Macon, Bridgewater, Emory & Henry, Randolph, Sweet Briar and Hollins. |
Bridgewater College athletics director Curt Kendall announced Monday that Michael Van Horn has been selected as the new women’s soccer head coach. Van Horn succeeds Kelly Gregory who has returned to her native Canada to pursue other professional opportunities. Van Horn brings a wealth of coaching experience at both the high school, club and collegiate levels to the Eagles’ program. Since 2005, Van Horn has served as the assistant men’s soccer coach/goalkeeper coach at Bridgewater College. Van Horn was responsible for organizing and directing all goalkeeper sessions for the men’s team. He was also involved in many other aspects of the program including the recruiting process. This spring, Van Horn is coaching the women’s soccer team at Turner Ashby High School, a position he has held since 2006. He has led the Knights to one district title during his tenure. From 2003-2005, Van Horn served as men’s assistant soccer coach at King’s College in Wilkes Barre, Pa. Van Horn graduated from Christopher Newport University with a bachelor of science degree in exercise science. He earned his master of science in athletic administration from James Madison University. |
Bridgewater College senior Tara Summy received honorable mention on the NSCAA/adidas College Women Scholar All-East Region team.Summy is a senior from Manheim. Pa. She is majoring in Philosophy & Religion and Communication Studies. Summy started in 14 games this past season and scored three goals for the Eagles. |
![]() Bridgewater College senior Caitlin Gordon and freshman Krista Ready received honorable mention honors on the All-ODAC women's soccer team released Wednesday.Gordon started all 19 games and anchored the Eagles defensive efforts. She finished the season with one goal and three assists. Ready ranked second on the team in scoring with 22 points on 10 goals and two assists. Washington & Lee's Anne Van Devender was named the ODAC Player of the Year and Roanoke's Phil Benne was honored as ODAC Coach of the Year. Lynchburg's Betsy Kwiatkowski was named ODAC Rookie of the Year and her teammate Lauren Askey received the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete award for the second straight season. |

The Bridgewater College women's soccer team closed out its regular season Wednesday with a 6-1 loss to Roanoke College in ODAC action.The Eagles scored late in the game when Krista Ready found the net with the assist going to Sara Taylor. Six different players scored goals for the Maroons. The Eagles finish the regular season with an 8-10 overall record and a 4-7 conference mark. Roanoke is now 15-2-1 overall and 10-1 in the ODAC. Bridgewater will play on the road in the first round of the ODAC tournament. Seeds and game times will be announced by the ODAC office. |
Bridgewater College celebrated Senior Day on Sunday with a 2-0 non-conference victory over North Carolina Wesleyan College.The Eagles are now 8-9 overall. The win was the second straight for the Eagles and their second straight shutout. Bridgewater took the lead in the first half when Krista Ready took a pass from Kristen Harris and chipped it over the goalie's head for the goal. BC added an insurance goal in the second half when Harris scored on a penalty kick. |

Bridgewater College freshman Kristen Harris received the ODAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week honor Monday.Harris helped lead the Eagles to a 3-0 record on the week, including a pair of ODAC victories. Harris scored two goals and added two assists in an 8-0 victory over Sweet Briar and then added three goals in a 5-1 victory at Mary Baldwin. She capped the week off with a goal and an assist in a 3-2 victory at Emory & Henry. |
The Bridgewater College women's soccer team scored two goals in the final 10 minutes Sunday to edge Emory & Henry, 3-2, in ODAC action.After a scoreless first half, the offenses began to find the range in the second half. Emroy & Henry scored first on a goal by Kayla Callegari at the 50:30 mark, but the Eagles evened the score when Kristen Harris scored off an assist from Caitlin Gordon to tie the score at the 62:45 mark. The Wasps regained the lead when Kelsey Sellers scored on a penalty kick at the 68:00 minute mark. Emory & Henry held the lead until the 82nd minute when Megan Smith scored off an assist from Harris to tie the score. Then, with just 1:14 left in the game Carrie Lamond scored the clincher, giving the Eagles the 3-2 win. The Eagles are now 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the ODAC. E&H is now 6-6 overall and 1-5 in the conference. |

Harris finished the game with two goals and two assists while Ready scored twice and added one assist. Also scoring for BC were, Tara Summy, Megan Smith, Krista Frye and Caitlin Gordon. Carrie Lamond and Kylene Peroutky recorded assists. Brooke Barham finished with two saves to register the shutout in goal. The Eagles are now 4-7 overall and 2-4 in the ODAC. Sweet Briar is now 2-6 overall and 0-4 in the ODAC. |
Katie Hern and Martha Caulkins scored two goal apiece Wednesday to lead Washington & Lee to a 5-0 victory over Bridgewater in ODAC women's soccer action.Kern gave the Generals an early lead, but the Eagles stayed within striking distance for most of the first half. Bridgewater took five shots in the first half, but was unable to score. Caulkins added a goal with less than five minutes left in the half, giving the Generals some breathing room at the break. Bridgewater is now 3-7 overall and 1-4 in the ODAC while W&L improves to 6-2 overall and 1-4 in the conference. |
Methodist University scored four goals in an eight-minute span during the second half to erase a 3-2 deficit and take a 7-3 victory over Bridgewater College in a non-district women’s soccer contest Sunday.Michelle Anderson gave the Monarchs an early lead and a goal by Brianna Cella made the score 2-0. The Eagles answered with a goal by Tara Summy off an assist by Erin Brenneman to make the score 2-1. With less than three minutes left in the half, Megan Smith scored off a corner by Caitlin Gordon to tie the score at the half. Bridgewater took the lead at the 50:30 mark when Kristen Harris scored with the assist going to Smith. The Monarchs then rallied with two goals from Chrystal Bradley and single goals from Erica Nath and Hevyn Diers to take control of the contest. Diers added her second goal with less than a minute to play to complete the scoring. Methodist is now 7-1 on the season while Bridgewater drops to 3-6. |

Randolph-Macon College scored two goals in the firt 15 minutes of play and that proved to enough to defeat Bridgewater, 2-0, in ODAC women's soccer action Wednesday.Lacy Phelps scored the Yellow Jackets first goal and Rachel Armstrong added the second goal off a corner at the 14:34 mark. The Eagles finished with 14 shots, four more the Randolph-Macon, but the Yellow Jackets' keeper, Mary Jocelyn, finished with seven saves to preserve the victory. The Eagles are now 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the ODAC. Randolph-Macon now has the same record as BC. |

George Fox defeated the Bridgewater College Eagles 4-0 Sunday afternoon in non-conference women’s soccer action. The Eagles played the Bruins on even terms in the first half. George Fox had just one more shot in the first half then Bridgewater and held a slim 1-0 lead on a goal by Jodi Edley. The Bruins pulled away in the second half behind two goals from Jenny McKinsey and one goal from Kirsten Cardwell. Sally Alway and Jessica Cardwell combined for four saves and the shutout for George Fox. Bridgewater keeper Brooke Barham finished with six saves. |

Shenandoah’s Krista Pattison tied the score but Bridgewater took the lead with just six minutes left in the first half when Megan Smith scored for a 2-1 lead. Smith added another goal at the 63:28 mark off a corner kick by Caitlin Gordon. Kendra Gillgren capped the scoring when she scored off an assist from Kate Pendergrass. Bridgewater goalkeeper Brooke Barham finished with four saves. |
Widener Unviersity controlled play Sunday afternoon to hand the Bridgewater College Eagles a 3-0 loss in women’s soccer action. Sam Baer scored all three goals to lift Widener to the victory. Widener led 1-0 at the half on a goal by Baer off an assist from Valisha Andrus. Baer added an unassisted goal midway through the second half before capping her day with a goal off an assist from Kim Sharpless with just 5:51 left in the game. For the Eagles Brook Barham had a busy day in goal and finished with 10 saves. The Eagles are now 1-1 on the season. |
Krista Ready scored the winning goal with three minutes left in the second overtime to lift Bridgewater College to a 2-1 victory over the McDaniel College Green Terror in women’s soccer action Saturday.After a scoreless first half, Bridgewater took the lead when Elizabeth Smith scored with 17:03 left to play in regulation. McDaniel knotted the score when Brittany Baer scored with eight minutes left, sending the game to overtime. Bridgewater’s Brooke Barham recorded five saves in goal while Leanne Hollinger 10 saves for the Green Terror. The Eagles finished with 15 shots on goal compared to 13 for McDaniel. Bridgewater is back in action Sunday afternoon against Widener. |
| The Bridgewater College women's soccer team has been picked ninth in the ODAC preseason coaches’ poll released Wednesday. Defending league champion Virginia Wesleyan College received seven first place votes on the way to 137 overall tallies as the Marlins were picked as narrow favorites over Washington & Lee University in the 2007 ODAC Women’s Soccer Preseason Poll. The Generals collected the remaining five first place nods and 133 votes all together. Third place in the poll is separated by only six votes amongst four schools. Eastern Mennonite University and Lynchburg College each garnered 106 votes from the league’s coaches with Guilford College scoring 102 tallies and Roanoke College adding another 100 votes to the competition. Randolph Macon was picked seventh, followed by Emory & Henry, Bridgewater, Randolph College, Sweet Briar College, and Hollins University. |
