Conor Smith, Head Coach
Conor Smith is beginning his second year as the Men's head tennis coach. Last year the Bridgewater Men finished the regular season 4th in the O.D.A.C., which was the best in program history. The team also tied the record for most wins in a season while also having their top doubles duo finish 11th in the Atlantic South region. Coach Smith's top 3 players also earned 1st and 2nd team All-O.D.A.C. honors as well.
Smith played four years of tennis at the University of Mary Washington and was a two-time All-American. Smith was the Capital Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year in 2000 and in 2001 he was individually ranked No. 30 in Division III. Smith earned his first All-American honor as a junior in 2002. He was ranked No. 16 in Division III and as a team Mary Washington was ranked No. 14. As a senior captain, Smith was named an All-American for the second time. He was ranked No. 15 in the nation and won the ITA Senior Regional Player of the Year. Mary Washington finished the 2003 season ranked No. 7 in Division III.
Smith began his coaching career in September, 2003 as the men's assistant coach at Mary Washington, a position he held until May, 2005. Later in 2005, he accepted a position as women's assistant coach at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland.
Smith received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history at Mary Washington and in 2007 he received his Masters degree in history at Washington College.
Smith resides in Harrisonburg with his wife, Chrissy, who is also a UMW alum and works in the Bridgewater Advancement Office. |
