Bridgewater College placed two players on the All-ODAC first-team in singles and two doubles teams also made first-team on the All-ODAC squad. Earning first-team honors in singles were Jessica Hill and Alissa Michael. Hill posted a 9-2 record at No. 4 singles and a 4-1 mark when playing No. 3. Hill was7-3 vs. ODAC foes. Michael was 8-4 at No. 3 singles and 4-2 at No. 2. She finished with a 9-3 mark against conference opponents. Michael and Kelly O’Connell were named to the All-ODAC first team doubles squad along with Hilary Teeter and Diana Ricker. The Michael-O’Connell duo posted a 9-2 record at No. 3 doubles and a 6-2 mark at No. 2 doubles. They were 10-3 against ODAC competition. Teeter and Ricker played No. 1 doubles throughout the spring and finished with a 12-2 overall record. They were 10-1 within the ODAC. Four Eagles – Teeter, Ricker, Pipkin and Megan Mathias - were named to the All-ODAC second team in singles. Teeter finished with a 9-9 overall record and a 7-6 mark against ODAC foes while playing No. 1 singles. Ricker was 10-3 overall and 9-1 against conference competition while splitting time at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Pipkin finished 10-4 overall and 6-2 within the conference at No. 2 singles. Mathias posted a 13-5 overall record and a 9-3 conference mark while splitting most of her matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. The Hill-Pipkin pair earned second-team All-ODAC honors in doubles. They were 10-3 overall and 6-1 against ODAC competition. |
Bridgewater senior Hilary Teeter picked up one of the top conference awards Sunday when she received the ODAC Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor. Teeter finished the season with a 9-9 record at No. 1 singles. In doubles she was 13-2 at No. 1 doubles and 3-1 at No. 2 doubles. The Bridgewater College women’s tennis team lost in the championship match of the ODAC tournament Sunday, losing 9-0 to the nation’s top ranked team, the Washington & Lee Generals.W&L won all singles matches in straight sets and also swept the three doubles matches. The Bridgewater College women’s tennis team advanced to the championship match of the ODAC tournament with a hard-fought 5-4 victory over Hollins on Saturday. The Eagles will meet the nation’s top-ranked team, the Washington & Lee Generals, for the title Sunday at 10 a.m. The Eagles opened play against Hollins by taking a 2-1 lead after doubles action. Hilary Teeter and Diana Ricker won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles and Jessica Hill and Megan Mathias won 8-5 at No. 3. BC’s No. 2 team, Alissa Michael and Kelly O’Connell lost a tough 9-8 decision to Hollins’ Nathalie Faure and Maggie Bai. Bai and Faure picked up wins for Hollins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but the Eagles win three of the remaining four flights to win the match. Bai defeated Teeter 7-6, 6-3 and Faure held off Michael 7-6, 6-4. Hollins’ other singles win came at No. 5 where Anne Ailstock defeated Mathias in three sets. Hill held off Sarah Budrus to win the third flight for the Eagles while Ricker and O’Connell posted convincing wins at No. 4 and No. 6. Ricker won her match at No. 4 6-1, 6-1 while O’Connell took a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6. The Eagles are now 15-3 overall. |

BC dominated the matches, losing a total of just three games. At No. 1, Hilary Teeter and Diana Ricker won 8-2. Alissa Michael and Kelly O'Connell teamed up for an 8-1 victory. Jessica Hill and Meghan Mathias took an 8-0 win at No. 3. The Eagles won all six singles matches in straight sets. Winning for the Eagles were Teeter at No. 1, Michael at No. 2, Hill at No. 3, Mathias at No. 4, O'Connell at No. 5 and Jenna Bishop at No. 6. The second-seeded Eagles will meet No. 3 Hollins in semifinal action Saturday. |
The Bridgewater College tennis team is seeded second for this weekend's ODAC women's tennis tournament.The Eagles finished the regular season with a 9-1 conference record, trailing only undefeated Washington & Lee in the standings. All matches in the ODAC tournament will be played on or near the Sweet Briar College campus. Bridgewater opens play Friday at 1:30 p.m. against the winner os the Lynchburg College vs. Emory & Henry College match. The contest will be played at the Amherst Middle School. The Bridgewater College women’s tennis team clinched second place in the ODAC regular season standings with a 7-2 victory Wednesday over Virginia Wesleyan College. The Eagles got off to a fast start by sweeping the doubles. Hilary Teeter and Marlena Pipkin took a close 9-7 victory at No. 1 doubles. BC rolled in the other two matches with Alissa Michael and Kelly O’Connell winning 8-2 at No. 2 while Jessica Hill and Megan Mathias took an 8-1 victory at No. 3. Bridgewater controlled play at the bottom of the singles ladder, winning at No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to seal the win. Michael took a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 and Hill followed with a three-set victory at No. 4. Mathias at No. 5 and O’Connell at No. 6 dominated their matches. Mathias won 6-0, 6-1 and O’Connell won 6-0, 6-0. The Eagles finish the regular season with a 13-3 overall record and a 9-1 mark in the ODAC. |

Bridgewater College picked up a key conference victory Thursday as the Eagles defeated Hollins University, 7-2.The teams entered the day tied for second in the ODAC standings with 7-1 conference marks. Bridgewater grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles where Hilary Teeter and Diana Ricker won at No. 1 and Alissa Michael and Kelly O'Connell were victorious at No. 2. The Eagles almost made it a clean sweep, but Jessica Hill and Megan Mathias lost in a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles. The Eagles closed the match out with an impressive showing in singles action as BC won five of the six matches. Teeter, playing No. 1 for the Eagles, lost in split sets, but the rest of the ladder prevailed. Michael, Ricker, Hill, O'Connell and Mathias posted singles victories for the Eagles. |

The Bridgewater College women’s tennis team was picked fourth in the ODAC Coaches’ Preseason Poll released Monday. First-year coach Conor Smith welcomed back four of the top six players from last year’s team that finished fourth in the ODAC. The closest match in singles came at No. 4 where Jessica Hill lost to W&L’s Rebecca Timmons 6-4, 6-2. In doubles, BC’s No. 1 duo of Hill and Pipkin lost 8-4. Bridgewater College played in the ODAC Fall Individual Championships on Saturday at Hollins University. Megan Mathias lost to Katie Duncan of Washington & Lee in the title match at No. 6 singles. Mathias won her first match in split sets over Hollins’ Sarah Sullivan and then swept Emory & Henry’s Kaylee Gallant in the semifinals. Hilary Teeter at No.1, Diana Ricker at No. 3 and Kelly O’Connell at No. 4 each lost in the semifinal round. Teeter won her first match over Sweet Briar’s Caroline Byrd 6-0, 6-1 before losing to W&L’s Lauren Caire in straight sets. Ricker downed Lauren Musick (E&H) 6-2, 6-1 before losing to Sarah Budrus (Hollins) in straight sets. O’Connell needed to win two matches to reach the semis as she defeated Santiera Brown (Virginia Wesleyan) and Mallory Lane (E&H) – both in straight sets – before falling to W&L’s Virginia Dickinson. Marlena Pipkin rebounded after losing her opening match to win the consolation final in the No. 2 flight. At No. 5 Megan McGee lost in the consolation final. Pipkin defeated Kristin Nagy (Roanoke) to win her consolation final. McGee lost in three sets to Shannon Shalestock (Sweet Briar). Two of Bridgewater’s doubles teams each lost in the semifinal round – Teeter-Ricker at No. 1 and Pipkin-O’Connell at No. 2. |
The Bridgewater College women's tennis team participated at the ITA Regional hosted by the University of Mary Washington this past weekend and several Eagles won matches.Diana Ricker had the best showing as she advanced to the Gray singles (C division) draw. In the round of 32 Ricker defeated Kristen King of Salisbury 7-6, 7-5. She then defeated Grove City's Jule Bellissimo 6-4, 6-4 in the Round of 16 before downing Kristin Taylor, also of Grove City 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. In the Blue (B division) doubles draw, Ricker teamed up with Hilary Teeter to win two matches. The BC duo defeated Corinne Alcorn and Rachel Tenuta of Catholic 8-0 and then downed Haverford's Helen Fisum and Katharine Wettick 9-8. They then lost in the quarterfinals to Priscilla Jamison and Danicka Robison 8-2. In the Blue Singles draw, Marlena Pipkin won her first two matches in staight sets before losing in the Round of 16 to Washngton & Lee's Rhodes Proctor. Teeter also reached the round of 16 with two straight set victories before losing to Salisbury's Rachel Iosue. Jessica Hill lost her first match before defeating Jacqui Magner of Muhlenberg in the first round of consolations. She then lost 8-4 to Anne McGuillicuddy of Dickinson College. Pipkin and Hill also partnered to play in the Blue Doubles draw and lost their first match to Franklin & Marshall's Valeria Harteg and Dana Russo. The BC pair then lost a close match in the consolation quarters to Salisbury's Hannah Parsons and Robyn Wendell. Kelly O'Connell picked up two wins, both in straight sets, in the Grey singles draw before losing in the quarterfinals. Morgan McGhee also played in the Grey singles and lost her first match in split sets to Julia Glanz of Salisbury. McGhee then lost in the consolation quarters to Sarah Sullivan of Hollins. O'Connell and McGhee also played in the Grey doubles. The BC pair won their first match against Kate Dodson and Andrea Movan of Hollins, 9-7, before losing in the quarterfinals to Salisbury's Lauren Bakker and Angela Tenaglia. |
Bridgewater College Director of Athletics Curt Kendall has announced the hiring of Conor Smith as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach.Women’s tennis coach Mimi Knight stepped down from her coaching duties at the conclusion of the 2007 season. The women finished the 2007 season with a 10-6 overall record and an 8-2 mark in conference play. Smith played four years of tennis at the University of Mary Washington and was a two-time All-American. Smith was the Capital Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year in 2000 and in 2001 he was individually ranked No. 30 in Division III. Smith earned his first All-American honor as a junior in 2002. He was ranked No. 16 in Division III and as a team Mary Washington was ranked No. 14. As a senior captain, Smith was named an All-American for the second time. He was ranked No. 15 in the nation and won the ITA Senior Regional Player of the Year. Mary Washington finished the 2003 season ranked No. 7 in Division III. Smith began his coaching career in September, 2003 as the men’s assistant coach at Mary Washington, a position he held until May, 2005. Later in 2005, he accepted a position as women’s assistant coach at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. Smith received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history at Mary Washington and in 2007 he received his Masters degree in history at Washington College. |
Veteran coach Mimi Knight is stepping down as head women’s tennis coach at Bridgewater College after leading the program for the past nine seasons. Knight’s teams posted an overall record of 85-50 during her nine seasons at the helm. The 2003 team turned in the best season during Knight’s tenure with a 10-3 overall mark and an 8-2 ODAC record. The team finished third at the conference tournament. This past season, the Eagles were 10-6 overall and 8-2 in the ODAC to place third in the conference regular season standings. Bridgewater finished fourth at the conference tournament, losing to Hollins University in the third-place match. Knight was named the ODAC Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year following the 2007 season. Knight plans to remain at the college part-time and continue working with Bridgewater’s riding team. |
Bridgewater College sophomore Marlena Pipkin was named to the VaSID All-State women’s tennis team released Thursday.Pipkin, who finished the year with a 14-2 singles record, was named to the all-state second team. Pipkin played the majority of her matches at No. 4 singles. Washington & Lee’s Emily Applegate, runner-up in the NCAA Division III singles tournament was named the State Player of the Year. W&L’s Cinda Rankin was named Coach of the Year after leading the Generals to the NCAA Division III national title. Virginia Wesleyan’s Imee Bautista was selected as the State Rookie of the Year. Bautista posted a 26-6 singles mark while playing No. 1 singles for the Marlins. |

Koslow at No. 3 singles and Marlena Pipkin at No. 4 won in straight sets in singles play. The Eagles lost two tough matches in three sets with Michael at No. 2 and Jenna Bishop at No. 4 falling in the third set. |
Bridgewater College gave No. 2 seed Virginia Wesleyan a tough match before falling 6-3 in the ODAC tournament semifinals Saturday at Washington & Lee University.The Marlins, who defeated the Eagles 8-1 during the regular season, led 2-1 after doubles play. Bridgewater won the No. 2 doubles match with Kayla Koslow and Alissa Michael taking an 8-4 victory. Bridgewater picked up two wins in singles with Koslow at No. 3 and Marlena Pipkin at No. 4 both winning in split sets. The Eagles are back in action Sunday when they play Hollins University for third place. |

The Bridgewater College women’s team has completed a solid regular season campaign and is now preparing for the upcoming conference tournament. The conference tournament will be held the weekend of April 20-22 at Washington & Lee University. Bridgewater finished the regular season with an 8-2 conference record and will enter tournament play as the No. 3 seed. The Eagles have been successful in doubles play behind the play of Hilary Teeter and Marlena Pipkin at No. 1 and Kayla Koslow and Alissa Michael at No. 2. Teeter and Pipkin are 7-1 together at No. 1 doubles while Koslow and Michael have put together a 10-3 mark at No. 2. In singles, Teeter has had a strong year at the top of the ladder where she is 10-3 this spring at No. 1. Pipkin has posted an 11-2 mark at No. 4 singles while Koslow is 9-2 at No. 3. |

Bridgewater College junior Hilary Teeter was named the ODAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the second time this season.Teeter was 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles to lead the Eagles to a pair of ODAC victories. Teeter lost just five total games in straight set wins vs. Emory & Henry and Sweet Briar. At No. 1 doubles she partner with Marlena Pipkin and lost just three total games in two wins. |

Virginia Wesleyan College ended Bridgewater’s four-match winning streak with an 8-1 victory Saturday in ODAC tennis action.Bridgewater’s lone win came in the No. 4 singles match where Marlena Pipkin defeated Virginia Wesleyan’s Lisa Fanney. Pipkin won the first set 6-4 before Fanney evened the match with a 7-6 win in the second set. The two then played a tiebreaker to decide the match with Pipkin winning 10-5. The Eagles return to action Sunday when they host Emory & Henry at 2 p.m. |
Bridgewater College slipped past Hollins University, 5-4, in ODAC women's tennis action Thursday.The Eagles led 2-1 after doubles play with wins by Hilary Teerer-Marlena Pipkin at No. 1 and Kayla Koslow-Alissa Michael at No. 2. Mallory Hall won her match at No. 5 singles in straight sets and the team contest was decided at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles flights were the matches went to a third set. At No. 3 singles, BC's Koslow defeated Candice Dalton 6-2, 1-6, 6-2. At No. 4, Pipkins rallied after losing the first set to defeat Sarah Sullivan 5-7, 6-3, 6-0. Those two victories gave the Eagles the overall victory, 5-4. |

Playing No. 1 singles, Teeter won all four of her matches against opponents from Guilford, Tri-State University, Lebanon Valley and Olivet. She also had a 2-2 record playing at No. 1 doubles with partner Diana Ricker. |
The Bridgewater College women’s tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Olivet College on Wednesday at Hilton Head, SC.The Eagles were in a 3-0 hole after doubles play and were unable to bounce back. BC did split the singles with No. 1 Hilary Teeter, No. 3 Diana Ricker and No. 4 Marlena Pipkin won in singles play. Bridgewater won its second srraight women's tennis match to start the spring season as the Eagles edged Tri-State University, 5-4, Sunday at Hilton Head, S.C.Kayla Koslow and Alisa Michael won their match at No. 2 doubles, but the Eagles trailed 2-1 after the doubles action. Bridgewater then won the first four flights in singles to win the match, 5-4. Hilary Teeter, playing No.1, was the final match on the court and she won the deciding point. Teeter and her opponent split sets and with darkness approaching, Teeter won a third-set super tiebreaker to clinch the victory for BC. Michael at No. 2, Diana Ricker and No. 3 and Koslow at No. 4 were the other winners for the Eagles in singles action. The Eagles return to action Tuesday against Lebanon Valley. |
