  • Hartman, 4x100 relay qualify for NCAA meet - 05/19/2008

  • national logoBridgewater College qualified athletes in two events for the upcoming NCAA Division III Women's Track & Field Championships hosted by Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

    Courtney Hartman will compete in the heptathon were she ranks No. 16 in the nation entering the NCAA meet.

    The women’s 4x100 relay team (Hartman, Jill Wattai, Sammy Mizerak and Samantha Phillips) posted a time of 47.83 seconds this season and is ranked eighth entering the national meet.

    The top eight finishers in each event earn All-American status. The national meet runs May 22-24.
  • Rhodes sets new BC record in pole vault - 05/16/2008

  • ODACtf Bridgewater College freshman Christina Rhodes broke her own record in the pole vault Friday during the Eastern Mennonite University Last Chance Meet.

    Rhodes set the new record and also improved her NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the event by clearing 11 feet, 7.75 inches.

    Also winning at Friday's meet was the women's 4x100 relay team with a time of 48.15 seconds. Running for the Eagles were Jill Wattai, Courtney Hartman, Samantha Phillips and Sammy Mizerak.
  • Hartman sets new record in heptathlon - 05/11/2008

  • hartmanBridgewater College sophomore Courtney Hartman set a new BC record in the heptathlon this weekend at Generals Combined Event Challenge hosted by Washington & Lee.

    Hartman finished the two-day, seven-event competition with 4,380 points.

    Hartman also improved her point total as a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Division III meet. This weekend's effort moves Hartman into the Top 10 in Division III in the event.
  • Rhodes meets NCAA provisional mark - 05/10/2008

  • ODACtf Bridgewater College freshman Christina Rhodes met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the pole vault Saturday at Christopher Newport.

    Rhodes set a new BC record in the pole vault as she cleared 3.51 meters (11 feet, 6.25 inches).

    Jill Wattai placed second in the 200 with a time of 25.51 seconds.

  • Wattai just misses provisional qualifying mark - 05/01/2008

  • Jill Wattai Jill Wattai just missed the provisional qualifying standard in the 200 meters during Thursday's Liberty Twilight Invitational.

    Wattai ran the event in a time of 25.34 seconds, just .02 of a second off of the provisional qualifying standard.

    The 4x100 relay (Courtney Hartman, Samantha Phillips, Wattai and Sammy Mizerak) took first with a time of 48.35 seconds.

    Mizerak also placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 102 feet, 4 inches.
  • Eagles place third at ODAC Championship meet - 04/19/2008

  • Jill Wattai The Bridgewater College women’s track team finished with a solid third-place showing at the ODAC Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Roanoke College.

    Bridgewater finished with 80 points, trailing Roanoke with 218 and Washington & Lee with 149.

    Sophomore Courtney Hartman paced the Eagles with a strong overall effort. Hartman placed in six different individual events and ran a leg on the winning 4x400 relay and the second-place 4x100 relay.

    Saturday, Hartman placed fourth in the 100, second in the 200, sixth in the 100 hurdles and fifth in the javelin.

    The highlight of the meet for the Eagles came in the 4x100 where they battled Roanoke. Roanoke entered the event with the best time in the nation and they bettered that mark, winning Saturday with a time of 46.84.

    The Eagles placed second with a time of 47.83 – the fourth-fastest time in the nation. Running for BC were Hartman, Jill Wattai, Samantha Phillips and Sammy Mizerak. The time was a new BC record and met the NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

    The same four runners won the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:09.64.

    The Eagles had one individual champion Saturday when freshman Christina Rhodes won the pole vault, clearing the bat at 3.21 meters.

    Wattai, Samantha Phillps, Mizerak and Nicole Phillips each placed in two individual events Saturday. Wattai was sixth in 100 and third in the 200. Samantha Phillips placed sixth in the 200 and fourth in the 400. Mizerak took fifth in the 400 hurdles and second in the javelin. Nicole Phillips finished sixth in the 400 and third in the pole vault.
  • Hartman places in two events at ODAC meet - 04/19/2008

  • hartmanCourtney Hartman placed in two events Friday to lead the Eagles women’s team on the first day of competition at the ODAC Track & Field Championship Meet hosted by Roanoke College.

    Hartman placed fourth in the long jump and sixth in the high jump Friday. BC’s other points were earned by Erin Boston who tied for third in the high jump.

    In Friday’s preliminaries races, the BC women fared well. Hartman, Jill Wattai and Samantha Phillips qualified for Saturday’s finals in both the 100 and 200 meters.

    Hartman also qualified for the final in the 110 hurdles and Sammy Mizerak moved on to the 400 hurdles final with the second-fastest qualifying mark.
  • Eagles finish fourth at Messiah - 04/12/2008

  • The Bridgewater College women's track team placed fourth Saturday at the Messiah Invitational.

    Bridgewater’s 4x100 relay team also placed first with a time of 42.02.

    The Bridgewater women's 4x100 relay team broke the BC record for the second week in a row, running a 48.54 at Messiah. The time also met the NCAA provisional qualifying mark for the event.

    Samantha Phillips won the 200 for the Eagles with a time of 26.04 and placed second in the 400 with a time of 1:00.27.

    Erin Boston tied for seocond in the high jump and Sammy Mizerak placed fifth in three events - the long jump, triple jump and javelin. Courtney Hartman finished third in the heptathlon.
  • Mizerak named ODAC Female Track Athlete of the Week - 04/07/2008

  • Sammy MizerakSammy Mizerak’s huge day at the Dan Frail Invitationa track meet hosted by Mariette College, earned the BC sophomore the ODAC Female Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honor.

    Mizerak ran on two winning relay teams, won two individual events and placed third in two more to help lead the Eagles to a second-place team finish at the meet.

    Mizerak ran on both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. Both teams won and both set new meet records in the process. The 400 relay team ran a 48.67, just missing the NCAA provisional standard of 48.65. The 400 relay time was also a new BC record. The 1600 relay won with a time of 4:11.66. Both relay times ranks second in the ODAC this season.

    Mizerak won both the long jump and triple jump. Her winning long jump was 17-feet, ¾ inches and her winning triple jump was 34 feet, 1 ½ inches. Both jumps rank No. 2 in the BC all-time records book

    She also placed third in the javelin and third in the 400 meter hurdles.
  • Eagles place second at Marietta meet - 04/05/2008

  • The Bridgewater College women’s track team scored 144 points Saturday to place second at the Don Frail Invitational hosted by Marietta College. The Eagles finished just two points behind meet champion Marietta.

    It was a record-setting day for the BC women as they set four meet records and three new BC records.

    Both BC relay teams won and both set new meet records. The runners in both the 4x100 and 4x400 were Courtney Hartman, Sammy Miaerak, Samantha Phillips and Jill Wattai. The 4x400 team ran a time of 4:11.66. The 4x100 team ran a BC record time of 48.67, just missing the NCAA provisional time of 48.65.

    Samantha Phillips placed first in the 400 meters with a meet record time of 1:00.75.

    Freshman Christina Rhodes set the fourth meet record with a height of 11 feet, ½ inch. The mark also broke the Eagles record set by Rhodes earlier this season.

    The final BC record was set by Hartman as she won the javelin with a throw of 111 feet, 6 inches.

    Mizerak had a huge day for the Eagles. In addition to running on both winning relays, she won both the long jump and triple jumps and placed third in the javelin and 400 meter hurdles. Mizerak won the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, ¾ inches and the triple jump with a mark of 34 feet 1 ½ inches. Both marks rank No. 2 on the BC all-time lists.

    Wattai added two solid efforts in the sprints, placing second in both the 100 and 200.
  • Wattai, Hartman have strong showings at Liberty - 03/29/2008

  • hartmanCourtney Hartman and Jill Wattai paced the Bridgewater College women's track team at Saturday's Liberty Invitational.

    Hartman finished the two-day competition in the heptahtlon with a total of 4,245 points to meet the NCAA provisional qualifying standard.

    Wattai put her name in the record books in both sprints. She placed sixth in the 100 with a time of 12.58 seconds and then finished fifth in the 200 with a time of 25.39 seconds. Both times established new Bridgewater College records.

    Also turning in solid efforts for the Eagles were Sammy Mizerak with fourth-place finishes in both the 400 hurdles and the javelin and Erin Boston with a second-place finish in the high jump. [Liberty meet Results]
  • Wattai, Rhodes set new BC records - 03/09/2008

  • Jill Wattai Several meet records were broken Saturday at the Harry G.M. “Doc” Jopson Invitational Track & Field Meet hosted by Bridgewater College.

    Three performances on the women’s side broke the existing meet and facility record in their respective event.

    Roanoke’s Kate Mason ran the 200 in record time of 25.42 seconds and the Maroons’ 4x100 relay team set a new standard with a time of 47.08 seconds.

    Christy Falcone, running for the University of Mary Washington set a new mark in the 5000 with a time of 18:45.34.

    Also, Eastern Mennonite’s Michelle Leaman set a new meet record in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.29 seconds.

    For the BC women, Christina Rhodes was the lone individual winner as she placed first in the pole vault. Her winning height of 10 feet, 6 inches was a new Eagles’ record.

    Jill Wattai placed second in the 100 and third in the 200. Wattai’s time of 12.55 in the 100 was a new BC record.

    Courtney Hartman placed third in the 100.

    Sammy Mizerak placed second in both the 400 hurdles and javelin.

    Erin Boston placed second in the high jump.

    The women’s 4x100 relay finished third but the time of 48.98 seconds tied the existing BC record. [Women's Results]
  • BC women place fourth at ODAC meet - 03/01/2008

  • The Bridgewater College men’s track team placed second and the women placed fourth at the ODAC Indoor Track & Field Championship meet held Friday at Liberty University.

    The BC men finished the meet with 154.5 points to finish behind Lynchburg College with 186.5 points.

    The Eagles had five individual champions in the men’s meet.

    Melvin Queen won the 55 meters with a time of 6.48 seconds to edge teammate Tony Konate for the win. Konate placed in two other events with a sixth in the 200 and a fifth in the long jump. Queen ran a 6.46 time in the 55 meter prelims to meet the NCAA provisional qualifying standard.

    Stanley Peyton won the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.44. Teammate Jacob Griffin placed fourth in the event.

    JT Painter took first in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.84 seconds. Keenan Fenwick placed fourth in the hurdles and Damien Ward finished fifth. Fenwick also placed sixth in the long jump while Ward added a second-place finish in the high jump.

    Brandon Copeland won the long jump title with a distance of 6.96 meters to meet the NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

    Nathan Turner won the shot put with a toss of 16.26 meters and teammates CJ Thomas and Nick Fawley finished third and fourth in the shot. Turner also placed second in the weight throw and Thomas Bell earned a sixth in the weight throw.

    The Eagles took two places in the pole vault with Matt Armstrong in third and John Harris fifth.

    Nathan Rittenhouse turned in two strong runs in the distance events with a third in the mile and a second in the 5000.

    Donte Montague placed in two field events with a second in the triple jump and a third in the high jump.

    Rounding out the individual scoring for the men was Jeremy Lewis with a fifth in the triple jump.

    BC freshman Christina Rhodes was the lone individual winner for the women as she won the pole vault with a height of 3.05 meters. Nicole Phillips and Stacey DeHaven tied for fifth in the pole vault.

    Courtney Hartman and Jill Wattai had solid days as each placed in three events. Hartman was fourth in the 400 and fifth in both the high jump and 200. Wattai was third in the 200, fourth in the 55 meters and fifth in the long jump.

    Erin Boston just missed winning the high jump as she finished second with a height of 1.59 meters.

    Rounding out the scoring for the women were Samantha Phillips with a sixth in the 400 and Erin Murphy with a sixth in the 5000. [ODAC Indoor Championship Meet Results]
  • Eagles drops to No. 42 in power rankings - 02/21/2008

  • Bridgewater College dropped to No. 42 in the nation in this week’s Division III Track & Field Team Power Ranking released earlier this week.

    The Eagles moved down from No. 35 in the rankings a week ago. The rankings are based on a points system using the team’s top two performances in each event.

  • Eagles perform well at Susquehanna - 02/16/2008

  • Bridgewater College athletes turned in several strong performances Saturday at the Susquehanna Open.

    Leading the women’s efforts was freshman Christina Rhodes who cleared 10 feet, 11.75 inches to win the pole vault. Nicole Phillips also finished in the Top 10, clearing 9 feet, 6.25 inches to place ninth.

    Jill Wattai also had a strong day for the Eagles. Wattai jumped 17 feet in the long jump to place second. Wattai is just the second BC female athlete to hit the 17-foot mark in the long jump. She also placed sixth in the 200 with a time of 27.14 and just missed qualifying for the 55 meter final as she finished seventh in the preliminary with the top six advancing.

    Courtney Hartman also just missed the final in the 55 as she had the eight-fastest time at 7.66.

    For the men Nathan Turner continued his strong performances in the throws. Turner finished fourth in the shot put and weight throw and was the top Division III thrower in each event. He threw the shot 52 feet, 3.75 inches and then posted a distance of 48 feet, 7.5 inches.

    Brandon Copeland placed third overall in two events. He ran a time of 6.58 in the 55 meters and long jumped 21 feet, 7.5 inches.

    Other Top 10 efforts were turned in by Donte Montague with a fifth place in the triple jump at 41 feet, 7.75 inches, Brandon Spalding with a seventh-place finish in the 5,000 and Damien Ward with an eight-place in the high jump with a personal-best 6 feet, 2 inches.

    JT Painter ran 8.23 in the 55 meter hurdles to just missed the final with the eighth-fastest time.

  • Eagles set three BC records at Liberty - 01/26/2008

  • Nathan Rittenhouse, Nathan Turner and Chelsea Goss set new Bridgewater College records Saturday at the OnTrack Invitational indoor track meet at Liberty University.

    Rittenhouse ran the 3000 meters in a time of 8:58.63 records to break the mark of 9:03.56 set by teammate Brandon Spalding last year. Rittenhouse placed seventh in the event.

    Turner placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 50 feet, 1.25 inches to set a new BC record. Turner also placed third in the shot put with a distance of 51 feet, 4.25 inches.

    Jacob Griffin had a strong run in the 800, placing fifth with a time of 1:59.41 and Stanley Peyton took fourth in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:40.12

    For the women Goss ran the 1000 meters in a time of 3:19.09 to break her own record set in 2006.

    Chritina Rhodes cleared 10 feet in the pole vault to place third.

  • Turner, Rhodes set new BC records - 01/20/2008

  • The Bridgewater College men’s and women’s track teams turned in strong performances Sunday afternoon at the Orange & Maroon Classic hosted by Susquehanna University. The meet was the first of the season for the Eagles.

    Bridgewater College had three individual winners and one NCAA provisional qualifier. Two new BC records were also set Sunday.

    Nathan Turner shattered the BC record in the shot put and met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard with a throw of 16.82 meters (55 feet, 2.25 inches). Turner just missed the NCAA automatic qualifying standard of 17.00 meters.

    Stanley Peyton placed first in the 800 with a time of 2:01.51.

    There were several other strong performances by the BC men. JT Painter placed fourth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.05 seconds – the fourth fastest time in Eagles’ history. In the 55 meters, Tony Konate and Melvin Queen finished 1-2 in the trials, but both false started in the final.

    The women’s team also turned in strong efforts in the first meet.

    Freshman Christina Rhodes posted a height of 10 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault to place second while setting a new Bridgewater College record.

    Chelsea Goss won the 800 with a time of 2:30.96 – a personal best and the second-fastest time in Bridgewater history.

    Freshman Kendra Jackson placed second in the long jump at 16 feet, 4.5 inches. The jump was the third best in BC history. She also placed fourth in the triple jump.

    Erin Boston also had a second-place effort with a 4 feet, 11.75 inches effort in the high jump.

    Sophomore Courtney Hartman had a strong all-around performance, placing fourth in the shot put, fifth in the 55 hurdles, third in the 55 meters and second in the 200.

    Samantha Phillips placed in three events with a sixth in the triple jump, second in the 55 meters and fourth in the 200.
