Compressing Pictures to make file size smaller

If you inserted your pictures into your document BEFORE you have compressed them, You will need to do the following steps and then re-insert you pictures into your document.

PowerPoint and Word documents make it easier to insert pictures right from your camera, however, most of these pictures are large in file size and make your documents much to large to save or send in e-mail. To reduce file size from a campus computer use the following instructions. (Note: Compressing your pictures does not reduce the visible picture height and width, it only reduces the size of the file that is saved.)

  1. Right Click on the picture you want to insert in your document (before inserting into your PowerPoint or Word document).
  2. Choose "Open With" then choose "Microsoft Office picture Manager"
  3. Click on the "Picture" Menu and choose "Compress"
  4. A menu should popup to the right of your screen. On that menu Under "Compress", choose the radio button beside Documents.
  5. Click the "OK" button at near the bottom of the page.
  6. Go to "File" and choose "Save". This will save over your original file.
  7. After you have saved, go into PowerPoint or Word and now insert your picture.
