Perkins Loan
Must submit a FAFSA and have exceptional financial need.
Low interest rate of 5% does not accrue until 9 months after student graduates, drops below half-time status, or withdraws.
Repayment begins 9 months after student graduates, drops below half-time status, or withdraws.
If you are borrowing your first Perkins Loan, complete the Perkins Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling online. You will need your FAFSA PIN to sign electronically. To apply for a PIN or request a duplicate, proceed first to the PIN website.
Stafford Loan
Must submit a FAFSA.
Aid analysis determines type of Stafford Loan:
- Subsidized: Government pays interest until student leaves school.
- Unsubsidized: Student responsible for interest accrued while in school.
Maximum eligibility for Stafford Loan funds each year depends on academic level.
For loans first disbursed on or after July 1, 2008 the
interest rate will be fixed at 6% for subsidized loans and 6.8% for
unsubsidized loans.
Repayment begins 6 months after student graduates, drops below half-time status, or withdraws.
Stafford Loan Lender Disclosure
If your parent has an adverse credit history, consider
having him/her apply below for the PLUS Loan. A dependent student whose
parent is denied a Federal PLUS Loan may borrow an additional unsubsidized
Stafford Loan—which has a better interest rate and terms than most private,
alternative loans. The maximum, additional unsubsidized amount is $4000
for freshmen/sophomore and $5000 for juniors/seniors.

Federal PLUS Loan
This is a parent loan.
For loans disbursed on or after July 1, 2006, the interest rate will be fixed at 8.5%.
Repayment begins within 60 days after final disbursement. However, most lenders allow postponement of principal and/or interest payments while student is enrolled. To request this forbearance contact your lender.
When a parent is denied PLUS based on adverse credit,
the dependent student is allowed to borrow additional unsubsidized loan.
