Bridgewater's affiliation with the Church of the Brethren provides a rich Christian learning environment that respects a diverse range of religious and spiritual traditions and welcomes students of all faiths.
Our Campus Ministries office organizes a full calendar of opportunities for you to be as active as you want in religious life, including:
Bible Studies
Seek a deeper understanding and experience of faith through Bible study, sharing, and prayer, held Wednesday evenings at 9 p.m. in the Carter Center.
Retreats
Enjoy the fellowship of friends and fellow students while examining the meaning of faith in a peaceful, natural, mountainside setting.
Worship Services
Attend Tuesday morning ecumenical services at 9:30 as part of our convocation series in the Carter Center for Worship and Music, or Thursday morning BC Chapel, a time of worship, fellowship, and friends held at 9:30 in the Carter Center. A weekly contemporary worship service, BC Unity, is also held every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Boitnott Room. Campus Ministries can provide you with a list of worship opportunities and interfaith groups located off-campus.
Spiritual Focus Events
Gain insight into spiritual issues through regional and national experts who speak on campus during our convocation series.
Service Opportunities
Lend your skills to a community ministry or organization in need of a helping hand. You can volunteer with such groups as Amnesty International, Community Service Organization, Habitat for Humanity, or the Conservation Club.
Summer Opportunities
Serve those in other states and countries through mission work; participate in Ministry Summer Service, a leadership development program sponsored by the Church of the Brethren for students ages 18-24; attend a summer Christian camp; or join the Youth Peace Travel Team, a small summer travel group dedicated to speaking with youth about the Brethren tradition of peacemaking.
Student Peer Ministries
Help plan weekly Bible studies and other opportunities for spiritual growth and service, while supporting fellow students in their faith journey. You'll be part of the Student Ministry Council, which meets weekly to plan campus activities.
Deputation Teams
Travel to churches in Virginia and neighboring states with other students to lead worship services and strengthen the church/college relationship.
Fellowship Groups
Participate in a variety of organizations, such as the Baptist Student Union, Brethren Student Fellowship, and Campus Crusade for Christ, geared toward spiritual enrichment.
Our campus chaplain is available for conversation about issues concerning religious and spiritual matters. The chaplain maintains regular office hours in addition to campus ministry duties. |
