"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter
under heaven:...a time to break down, and a time to build up...a time to
keep, and a time to throw away." (Ecclesiastes 3.1)
For some, the college years are a time to break down and throw
away traditions from the past as we seek to discover what we
believe and value for ourselves. For others, the college years are a time
to build up and keep that which has shaped who we are and
claim it as our own.
Whether breaking down and throwing away, building up and keeping,
or some of both, involvement in a community of faith can help us work
through what we really believe, why we believe it, and what difference it
makes in the way we live.
Some will settle into one congregation and develop lasting
relationships; others will visit several congregations and experience a
stimulating variety. Either way, the college years are a unique
opportunity to deepen our understanding and experience of the mystery
called God.
The congregations and campus ministries listed here represent a rich
variety of worship, fellowship, study, and service that is available
during your time at Bridgewater College. The congregation of each faith
tradition listed is in most cases the one nearest campus. Check the local
telephone yellow pages for a more complete listing. I can provide more
information about specific congregations and assistance with
transportation.
I hope these directories will help you find a faith community that can
assist with sorting out what needs to be broken down and thrown away
and what needs to be built up and kept.
God's peace as you begin the search,
