August 15, 2005 Kerr named new lacrosse coach Bridgewater, Virginia Bridgewater College has selected Kathy Kerr as its new women’s lacrosse coach. Kerr succeeds Kari Pabis, who recently resigned as Bridgewater’s head lacrosse coach to take an assistant coaching position at Division I Towson University. Most recently, Kerr was the head coach at King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She was named head coach at King’s during the summer of 2001. The lacrosse program showed improvement in each of Kerr’s four seasons. Her first team finished with a 3-12 record. In her second year, the team finished 5-10, tying the college record for most wins in a season. The 2004 posted the first winning record in college history at 8-6 and this past season the team finished 11-7 and qualified for the conference playoffs for the first time in college history. Kerr’s teams also displayed excellence in the classroom. This past year, the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association recognized her team as the top-ranked program in Division III with a 3.49 grade point average. In all divisions, King’s GPA was second only to Stanford’s. Prior to her head coaching stint at King’s, Kerr was an assistant women's lacrosse coach at Marymount University. She also coached at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology for four seasons. Kerr is a 1996 graduate of NCAA Division I Cornell University where she earned her degree in American Government and was a member of the lacrosse team. Kerr continued her education at the University of Maryland where she earned a Master's degree in Sport Studies (Sociology of Sport). |
