Convocation Rules, Regulations and Protocols
Please be polite and TURN OFF all electronic devices during a convo.
You need to attend 7 Convos per semester to get an “S” instead of a “U” on your transcript.
Students doing student teaching do NOT have a convo requirement for the semester they are teaching. Students doing BCA (study abroad) do NOT have a convo requirement for the semester they are studying abroad. If you attend more than 7 convos in a given semester, they do not carry over to the next semester, nor can they be used retroactively to make up for previous semesters.
Convo attendance is determined by the swiping of your ID card at each convo you attend. If you do not bring your ID card to a convo, or your card does not register when you swipe it, you will need to get a convo ticket.
If you have a convo ticket, you will need to take it to Ms. Kelly Coverstone (1st floor of McKinney Hall) as soon as possible to receive convo credit.
For most convos, you will be able to pre-scan your card if you arrive early. Pre-scanning typically starts ½ hour before the start of the program. Everyone who pre-scans MUST sit in the front of the room (in front of the scanner). Once you pre-scan, you may not leave the room (so go to the bathroom before you pre-scan). There is NO pre-scanning for the Tuesday morning convos.
To determine if a convo you have attended has been downloaded to WebAdvisor, check the convo website. On the convocation schedule part of the website, look for the ID card icon If the ID card icon is next to the convo you attended, it has been downloaded. If the ID card icon is NOT next to the convo, it has not been downloaded yet.
The Convo Website, the Activities Calendar, and the convo brochure, are excellent places to go if you need convo information, BUT please read my MONDAY MORNING convo emails for all the up to date convo information.
For any convo that has repeat performances (e.g. The Student Plays), students can attend multiple performances, but will only receive 1 convo credit.
For the varsity sport convos, you must bring the ticket you receive at the Tuesday morning convo to the sporting event for the second convo credit. You must attend the ENTIRE sporting event to get the second credit.
For the Sunday Cinema Series convos, all movies will have a post viewing discussion period. You MUST stay for the entire discussion in order to get convo credit for the film. If you know you have to leave before the movie ends, you should perhaps plan to attend another convo.
If you need to meet with the Convocation Director, you will need to schedule an appointment through the convo secretary, Ms. Coverstone.
NEW POLICIES AS OF FALL 2009: Attending a Convo Dinner will count as an additional convo. Attending one of the Flory Fellows Sponsored Post Convo Discussions will count as an additional convo. Attending PDP Day workshops (see PDP day schedule for details) will count as an additional convo.
