Convocation Rules and Regulations

  1. Please be polite and turn off all electronic devices during a convocation.
  2. You need to attend seven convocationcations per semester to get an “S” instead of a “U” on your transcript.
    • Students doing student teaching do not have a convocation requirement for the semester they are teaching.
    • Students doing BCA Study Abroad do not have a convocation requirement for the semester they are studying abroad.
    • Attending more than seven convocations in a given semester is wonderful and encouraged, but “extra” convocations do not carry over to the next semester, nor can they be used retroactively to make up for previous semesters.
  3. Convocation attendance is determined by the swiping of your ID card at each convocation you attend.
    • If you do not bring your ID card to a convocation, or your card does not register when you swipe it, you will need to get a convocation ticket.
    • If you have a convocation ticket, you will need to take it to Ms. Kelly Coverstone (1st floor of McKinney Hall) as soon as possible to receive convocation credit.
  4. For some convocations, you will be able to pre-scan your card if you arrive early. Pre-scanning typically starts a half hour before the start of the program.
    • Everyone who pre-scans must sit in the front of the room (in front of the scanner).
    • Once you pre-scan, you may not leave the room (so go to the bathroom before you pre-scan).
    • Typically, there is no pre-scanning for the Tuesday morning convocations.
  5. To determine if a convocation you have attended has been downloaded to WebAdvisor, check the convocation website. On the convocationcation schedule part of the website, look for the ID card icon.
    • If the ID card icon is next to the convocation you attended, it has been downloaded.
    • If the ID card icon is not next to the convocation, it has not been downloaded yet.
  6. The convocation Website, and the Activities Calendar, are excellent places to go if you need convocation information, but please read my Monday morning convocation emails for all the up to date convocation information.
  7. For any convocation that has repeat performances (e.g. The Student Plays), students can attend multiple performances, but will only receive one convocation credit.
  8. For the Sunday Cinema Series convocations, all movies will have a post viewing discussion period. You must stay for the entire discussion in order to get convocation credit for the film. If you know you have to leave before the movie ends, you should perhaps plan to attend another convocation.
  9. Attending a convocation Dinner will count as an additional convocation.
  10. Attending one of the Flory Fellows Sponsored Post convocation Discussions will count as an additional convocation.
  11. For the varsity sport convocations, you must bring the ticket you receive at the Tuesday morning convocation to the sporting event for the second convocation credit. You must attend the entire sporting event to get the second credit.
