Convocation Types

As mentioned on the Convocation Requirements web page, there are no specific requirements for attending certain types of convocations. This section describes the basic characteristics of the different parts of the convocation series.
The Traditional Series
Every Tuesday morning at 9:30AM has been designated as time for convocations. These convocations will deal mostly with guest speakers and with student presentations. Very rarely will a film be shown during this time. These convocations will attempt to always be less than 45 minutes in length.
The Thursday Evening "Must Go Convo" Series
Every Thursday evening, typically at 7:30 PM, there will be some sort of event (whether speaker or film or both) that is expected to be a large draw. Often this will be the time used for major endowed speakers coming to our campus. These events will typically last an hour (or more in the case of films, etc.)
The Cinema Series
Mostly shown during the "Must Go Convo" Thursday evening time slot, films will include a mix of classic, independent, & international films and documentaries. The purpose of this series is to expose the students to a variety of important and thought provoking film. Some of the films may also include a wrap-up session to be conducted by student organizations; such sessions will be announced at some point prior to the showing of the film.
The "Convo On The Road" Series
Learning does not occur solely on campus. Some exciting day-trips have been planned that will have educational value. Though there will be some extra cost to the students, but the trips will be at a discounted price, since they will be subsidized by the college convocation series. In the fall, trips to the Blackfriars Theater and Washington, DC are planned. For the Spring semester, some possible overnight trips to cities and historical sites such as Philadelphia, New York, and Gettysburg are being considered.
Lyceum Series
This series brings professional musical and cultural events to the college. These events are typically scheduled on Sunday and Mondays.
