What to Bring to Campus


I'm Going to Live on Campus . . . What Should I Bring With Me?
  • Phone (one per room; individual voice-mail)
  • Television (1 recommended per room)
  • VCR or DVD player (for those nights you can't watch TV because you're studying)
  • Microwave (low wattage, apartment-style; 1 recommended per room)
  • Small Refrigerator (115 volt, NO full size, 1 per room)
  • Stereo (with headphones)
  • Computer (2 per room)
  • Crock Pot and/or Hot Pot
  • Three-prong extension cords
  • Power strip-surge protector
  • Sports equipment (football, volleyball, basketball, and any other type of ball)
  • Desk lamp (no halogen lamps allowed)
  • Alarm clock
  • Laundry bag (or basket)
  • Laundry soap
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Stain remover (just in case)
  • Sewing kit (needles and thread, safety pins, etc.)
  • Eating utensils (preferably plastic)
  • Can opener
  • Cups and plates (plastic or Styrofoam)
  • Bedding (36" x 80" extra long twin sheets, bring a good blanket because it gets cold in the residence halls sometimes)
  • Anything to decorate your room (photos/posters)
  • Iron and small ironing board
  • Organizer or planner (calendar)
  • Backpack - and you'll learn to carry it on both shoulders!!
  • Bike and lock (if desired)
  • Fan
  • Bath towels, soaps, robe, etc.
  • First aid kit
  • Band aids
  • Tylenol or pain reliever
  • Personal hygiene items (toothpaste, deodorant, etc.)
  • Shower shoes
  • Umbrella
  • Trash can
  • Pictures of family and friends
  • Your insurance card/health insurance information
  • Phonebook from your home town
  • Phone cards (your parents should be happy to get these for you if you promise to call home!)

More Importantly, What Should I LEAVE AT HOME?!?!?
  • Pets (fish are allowed)
  • Full-size refrigerators (rooms are only so big)
  • Hot plates
  • Space heaters
  • Air Conditioners (medical permission required - $100 non-refundable annual fee)
  • Firearms
  • Fireworks
  • Metal-tipped darts/knives
  • Illegal drugs and paraphernalia
  • Expensive clothing and jewelry
  • Off-season clothes (closets are only so big)
  • Large pieces of furniture
