Emergency Call Boxes

Three emergency call boxes have been installed and are located in the Geisert Hall, Kline Campus Center parking lots, and McKinney Hall parking lot. The Call Boxes are located on a pole with a light at the top so that they can be readily identified. If one has a security or safety concern that deserves an immediate response, he/she should push the large red button that immediately activates a large blue flashing light and initiates a call to our Campus Police. There is then two-way communication between the caller and the Campus Police until the officer arrives on the scene.

The blue flashing light will flash for 15 minutes and the Call Box will continue to transmit voice or other sounds emanating from the vicinity of the Call Box so that the caller can continue to talk until the officer arrives. Obviously, the large flashing light and two-way communications are designed to deter a potential aggressor. The large blue light also serves to alert others in the vicinity to an emergency situation. The Call Boxes are placed so that they are accessible without exiting a car, if necessary. Properly used, these call boxes should serve as an enhancement to our security posture in our two largest parking lots. Nonetheless, they will be less effective if abused or activated by pranksters.

It will be considered a serious breach of campus policy to activate the Call Box as a prank.
