2008 Softball Championship Wrap-Ups

Men’s Championship Game

The #3 Seed U Can’t Beat Me lived up to their name by defeating #2 Seed Squirrels Gone Wild 16-2 in the men’s softball championship game. It was their third championship in four years.  The winner’s had a much more difficult semifinal game by needing to rally from a 10-2 deficit, including four runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the upstart 8th seeded Water Buffalos.  In the championship game, U Can’t Beat Me scored 9 runs in the first two innings and never looked back.  They were led by the hitting and pitching of Intramural Athlete of the Year Kyle Matyger and some outstanding defense.  He went 3-5 at the plate with 3 RBIs.  Ryan Baer and Warren Hedgepeth also contributed by plating 2 runs a piece.

Co-Rec Championship Game

The #1 Seed Horny Rhinos completed an unbeaten season by defeating #2 Seed Squirrels Gone Wild 10-1 in the co-rec softball championship game.  The winner’s stocked the team with a lot of experienced male and female softball players and it showed.  No other team was able to challenge them for the top spot this year.  The Squirrels Gone Wild tried in vain but fell short in both championship games.  Once again Kyle Matyger led the Rhinos with his pitching and hitting - contributing 3 RBIs and holding the opposition to only two hits.  The defense was also outstanding.  The winner’s scored 3 runs in the first inning and were never challenged.
