Health Services is located in the Funkhouser Wellness Center. Our entrance is located to the right of the main entrance which faces the parking lot off of College View Drive. The primary focus of the center is to promote the health and wellness of each student. We provide a variety of services related to maintaining good health and promoting wellness.

Services include but are not limited to:

  • The nurse and physician are available for initial consultation, evaluation, treatment and follow up. There are times when the physician or nurse practitioner may determine that a specialist in the field would be better able to treat a particular health problem. In that event, the student may be referred outside of Health Services. Usually, in those cases, the student would contact parents or their insurance company directly for information regarding insurance coverage, since the cost of those services would be the responsibility of the student or parent.

  • Allergy injections will be administered during regular Health Services hours. Students must provide their own serum, along with their current dosage schedule and complete instructions from the prescribing allergist. The student will be expected to wait 15 minutes after receiving injections and then be checked and released by the nurse. The first injection from each new vial must be administered during the doctor's hour due to the increased possibility of an adverse reaction. If there is no significant reaction to the new serum, subsequent injections may be given at any time during office hours.
  • Blood pressure monitoring, first aid treatment and supplies, various over the counter medications, and some samples of prescription medications are provided. We also have some items for loan as needed, including crutches, slings, ice packs, heating pads, and cool mist vaporizers.
  • The following diagnostic tests are available at no charge to the student, upon the order of the attending physician:

- Rapid strep test
- Mono test
- Routine urinalysis
- Pregnancy testing
- TB skin test

  • Availability of a wide selection of health and wellness educational resources are available. These include books, pamphlets, and videos on various topics such as nutrition, eating disorders, stress management, smoking risks and smoking cessation, alcohol use and abuse, sexually transmitted diseases, sexual abstinence and responsibility, birth control methods, disease prevention, and many more topics of concern to the college student.

Most services and supplies offered are free of charge to any student whether they are full or part time, resident or non-resident status. Any off-campus service, prescription medication, or procedure (unless accident related) is the student's financial responsibility. Students will be responsible for correspondence with their insurance company regarding coverage for prescription drugs and other off- campus services such as lab work, x-rays, or other diagnostic procedures ordered by the physician at Health Services.

Student fees provide insurance which covers a designated amount towards any injuries incurred during 24 hour period which runs through the entire school year. If you have any questions regarding this coverage , please contact Marilyn Evers @ Ext. 5394 at the Business Office.
