Your physical and emotional health are important to your overall success in and out of the classroom.
Bridgewater offers confidential medical and counseling services to all students, delivered by compassionate professionals. We help students maintain healthy lives through education and preventative care initiatives.
If you visit the Student Health Center with a medical concern, you’ll receive care from the College nurse and nurse practitioner. The Center’s services are managed by a board-certified family physician with a medical practice in Bridgewater.
Our services include:
Our providers offer primary care, addressing general medical problems. Some health concerns may call for a referral to a specialist—a physician who has advanced training in a specific medical discipline. You or your parents are responsible for medical services delivered by an outside provider.
Most of the Student Health Center’s services and supplies are free to all students. You’ll be responsible for paying for medical care, procedures and prescriptions obtained from off-campus facilities.
Before you can begin classes, you’ll need to provide documentation to show that you’ve received the MMR, varicella, TDAP, hepatitis B, polio and meningitis vaccines. This is a requirement of Virginia state law.
Information contained in a student's medical record is confidential and may not be released to anyone, including parents, faculty or staff without written permission from the student.
If you have any chronic medical history, take special medications or need special medical attention or treatment, you should make these needs known to Health Services. It may also be helpful to notify residence life staff and your roommate in the event that you need assistance (e.g., if you are an insulin dependent diabetic or have a history of seizures).
We encourage all students to maintain comprehensive, primary health insurance coverage while enrolled at Bridgewater. Students are responsible for all medical expenses, except for those provided by the Student Health Center. The College does not provide student health insurance.
Health Services is located inside the Funkhouser Wellness Center.
The entrance is located to the right of the main double door entrance facing the parking lot off College View Drive.
Clinic Hours are Monday-Friday: 9 a.m. - noon and 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
