What's Around Bridgewater College?

Bridgewater College offers an endless array of activities within its tight-knit campus community. It also offers students, faculty and staff a wealth of opportunities off campus due to its location in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. We invite you to learn more about the area we hope you’ll decide to call home:

The Bridgewater College Community
The heartbeat of Bridgewater College is its approximatley 1,750 students - representing 24 states and five  countries - and its faculty and staff. We encourage everyone in our community - students, faculty, staff, alumni and more - to enjoy the many activities and events offered on our campus. These include academic offerings from more than 60 majors and minors; sporting events featuring our 20 NCAA Division III athletic teams; frequent music, theater and entertainment events; a modern, fully equipped fitness center and aquatic facility; and a stunning equestrian center.

The Shenandoah Valley
The Shenandoah Valley, nestled between the Allegheny Mountains to the west and the Blue Ridge Mountains to the east, may just be one of the most beautiful and scenic areas of the country. The Valley - while rural and ideal for outdoor adventures - also offers residents opportunities often only found in larger metropolitan areas.

Bridgewater College is located in Bridgewater, Va., just minutes from the city of Harrisonburg and a short drive to Staunton. Charlottesville, consistently ranked as one of the best places to live in the United States, is an easy 45-minute drive from campus. The area boasts excellent school systems, a healthy business environment and the state's lowest crime rate.

Nature lovers enjoy hiking in our National Parks, caving, rock climbing, canoeing, white water rafting, skiing, snow tubing, golf and more. Agriculture is a big part of life in this region, resulting in the many award-winning vineyards along our wine trails, farmers markets during the warmer months and nationally renowned restaurants that feature local foods that arrive straight from area farms to your table.

Arts, cultural events and museums also take center stage in the Shenandoah Valley. Art galleries, antique shops and various festivals abound. Museums including the Frontier Culture Museum and the P. Buckley Moss Museum are big draws for tourists and locals alike. Staunton’s Blackfriars Playhouse is the world’s only re-creation of Shakespeare’s original indoor theater and hosts dozens of performances each year. History buffs will delight in the area’s Civil War battlefields and architecture, including Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello.

The area’s offerings are just too many to list! Learn more about the following:
