Alumni Spotlight | Drew Kirkner '10
Drew Kirkner ’10
Drew Kirkner thought he knew where he was going to college. Then he got a call from Mike Clark, Bridgewater College’s head football coach, asking him to play football for BC. It changed his direction completely. “Attending Bridgewater was one of the best decisions I have ever made.”
Kirkner, who graduated in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in history and political science, commented, “I’m thankful for my professors who took a personal interest in my education.” After graduating from BC, he attended law school at West Virginia University, followed by two years of practicing law in Charleston, W.V.
Today Kirkner is an attorney with Dinsmore & Shohl, LLP, in Washington, D.C. He represents corporate and individual clients, with a focus on civil defense. When he’s not practicing law, he attends Washington Nationals baseball games, plays disc golf and travels.
Kirkner is now a member of the BC Alumni Association Board of Directors and tries to come back to campus for meetings and football games at least a couple times each year.
He said his education at Bridgewater was exceptional preparation for his future career. “As I interact with people in the professional world, I understand how well BC prepared me for ‘the real world.’ Not only did I receive a strong education in the Department of History and Political Science, but I learned how to interact with and engage in my larger community.”
