Alumni Spotlight | Megan Orndorff Huffman ’03

“I appreciated the liberal arts environment where we were encouraged to develop the ‘whole person.’ I took classes in so many different disciplines that I would not have [elsewhere],” said Megan Orndorff Huffman as she reflected on her Bridgewater College education. Huffman majored in communication studies and minored in psychology. She treasured the opportunity to develop leadership skills through her service in student government as Student Body President and Vice President, as well as through participating in numerous clubs and organizations.
After graduating from Bridgewater in 2003, she pursued a master’s degree from Boston University in public relations. Following the completion of her master’s degree, she worked as a Nonprofit Marketing Partner for WCAV-CBS19 in Charlottesville, Va. For the final year and a half that she worked there, she was promoted to General Sales Manager.
After she and her husband, Matt, moved to Charleston, S.C., Huffman became the Development Operations Director for Water Mission, an international nonprofit that provides safe water solutions to developing countries, for three years. “It was there that I fulfilled my desire to serve on an international scale, and learned that much of my experience lent itself to fundraising/development.”
Though for now she is at home with her two young daughters, she continues to volunteer in the nonprofit sector, for organizations including World Help, Humbly I Serve/His Vision, Freedom 4/24, and Children's Miracle Network (CMN) of Central Virginia.
Huffman commented, “My Bridgewater College education was the cornerstone of my professional and personal journey. I often joked that I actually majored in leadership, and I have used that in so many settings.” She is the permanent class president for the class of 2003, served on the BC Alumni Association Board of Directors and is now a member of the President's Advisory Council. “I will forever be indebted to Bridgewater,” she said.
