November 2013 Alumni Newsletter
November 2013 Issue
I have some very good news to share with you this month. Following an extensive national search, Dr. Maureen Silva has accepted our offer to join Bridgewater College as Vice President for Institutional Advancement. I am excited to have Maureen join our leadership team and know that she will quickly make great strides in fundraising for BC.
This was a very thorough search process with a deep pool of qualified candidates that began last August. A search committee composed of three senior staff, a faculty member, a student and two trustees narrowed this field first to nine and then, following a round of face-to-face interviews, to four. These four finalists each came to campus for a full day of interviews with representatives of all campus constituencies, including alumni.
Dr. Silva comes to us from St. Mary’s College of Maryland (SMCM), where she currently serves as Vice President for Advancement and Executive Director of the SMCM Foundation. During her three years at SMCM, she has increased annual commitments from $1.2 million to $3.8 million, helped realize a 30% increase in the college’s endowment, and created numerous new relationships with alumni and community members and businesses.
Prior to joining SMCM, Dr. Silva served as Associate Vice Chancellor and Campaign Director at the University of Denver and Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Colorado School of Mines. Dr. Silva has a Ph.D. in higher education organization and governance from the University of Denver, and a master’s of nonprofit management from Regis University.
Dr. Silva will assume her new position at BC on February 1, 2014. I am confident we have selected an advancement leader who can help us set the College on a path to substantial fundraising success.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions.
David W. Bushman, Ph.D.
