Symphonic Band To Give Spring Concert | ||

BRIDGEWATER, Va. The Bridgewater College Symphonic Band will present a concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, in the Carter Center for Worship and Music on the College campus. The concert, under the leadership of Dr. S. Daniel Galyen, assistant professor of music and director of instrumental music at Bridgewater College, will focus on several special features. The program will feature Andrea Semke, the 2007 Student Soloist Competition winner in four movements of "Second Sonata for Clarinet and Piano in E-flat Major, Op. 120, No. 2" by Johannes Brahms "Allegro amabile," "Allegro appassionato," "Andante con moto" and "Allegro." The concert marks the premiere of a special transcription of the work for clarinet and band accompaniment by Tim Galyen, band director at Northside High School in Roanoke, Va. Semke, a senior music major and communication studies minor, is the daughter of Paul and Trish Semke of Glen Burnie, Md. At Bridgewater, she is a member of the Symphonic and Jazz bands and serves as conductor of the Pep Band. She also is president of the Music Educators National Conference, and secretary of Alpha Pi Omega, a co-ed service fraternity. The concert also will feature guest conductor Alan Shull, a 1980 graduate of Bridgewater College and band director at Fort Defiance High School. He will direct "Hymn of the Highlands" by Philip Sparke. In addition, the program will include works by Francios Gossec, Ron Nelson and W. A. Mozart. The concert is open to the public at no charge. | ||
