Bridgewater Seniors Excel In Foreign Languages | ||

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Bridgewater College seniors Jacqueline E. O'Hare and Justin Knight were presented the Raymond N. Andes Award, which honors a former chair of the College's foreign languages department. The award is presented annually to the College's top seniors in the department of foreign languages. The late Dr. Andes, a 1940 graduate of Bridgewater College, taught French from 1946 until he retired in 1983. O'Hare, who was presented the award in French, and Knight, who earned the award in Spanish, each received a certificate, a cash prize and a book, at the annual Academic Awards Convocation on April 29. O'Hare, a French and history and political science double major, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter D. O'Hare of Winchester, Va. The book O'Hare received was Les Romans de la Table Ronde et les Contes des Anciens Bretons by Theodore Hersart de La Villemarque. Knight, an international studies and Spanish double major, is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Aubrey Knight of Rockville, Md. The book Knight received was a Spanish-language dictionary and encyclopedia in one, El Pequeño Larousse Ilustrado. Both O'Hare and Knight will graduate on Sunday, May 11. Bridgewater College, a private, four-year liberal arts college, enrolls more than 1,500 students. Founded in 1880 and located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, it was the state's first private, coeducational senior college. | ||
