BC Jazz Band To Give Spring Concert | ||

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — The Bridgewater College Jazz Band will present a concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 13, in the Carter Center for Worship and Music on the College campus. The Jazz Band, directed by Dr. Tim Weir, visiting assistant professor of music and director of instrumental music, will feature music ranging from swing to funk. The evening concert includes "Brass Machine" by Mark Taylor, featuring the trumpet section, "The Heat's On" by Sammy Nestico and "Louisiana Bebop" by Les Hooper. Tim Stuart, a junior music major from Staunton, Va., will be featured on the alto saxophone on "My One and Only Love" by Robert Mellin and Guy Wood, arranged by Mark Taylor. "Old School" by Jeff Jarvis will feature Peter Loomis, a freshman business administration major with a minor in music from Silver Spring, Md., on bass and Michael Nelson, a junior music major from Roanoke, Va., on drums. The concert also includes "When I Fall in Love" by Edward Heyman and Victor Young, arranged by Gordon Goodwin, and "Us" by Thad Jones. Katelin Staley, a junior biology major with a minor in music from Frederick, Md., will be featured on the tenor saxophone on "This Could Be the Start of Something Big" by Steve Allen, arranged by Lennie Niehaus. The concert is free and open to the public. Bridgewater College, a private, four-year liberal arts college, enrolls more than 1,500 students. Founded in 1880 and located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, it was the state's first private, coeducational senior college. | ||
